strange how no one else has picked up on this, but its interesting that hennessy sports have pipped fight academy to the UK leg of the hatton vegas PPV in january.

this is very unusual and shows how empty the wardrobe is as far as championship class fighters coming through with fight academy is. normally the same promoter will run both shows.

a good source informed me that FA tried to convince sky that matthew hatton taking part in a 'domestic' eliminator would be good enough for the UK side of things. obviously sky were having none of it and its now presumed that matthew hatton will/might fight on the vegas undercard.

there must be lots of egg on fight academy faces as mick hennessy has shown his true class and 'pipped them' at the post !!

its about time some fighters graduated from this 'academy'. im sure junior witter will be pleased to accept some of ricky hattons PPV money...

there is no doubt FA could stump up enough quality to host the PPV off their own back, but as usual promoters are reluctant to put all of their eggs into one basket and miss out on another sky tv sponsored pay day. but they could only do that by putting clinton on their uk bill, they have no other fighters who are even domestic title holders.

they try and bluff the tv companies with sub standard offerings but sky etc are becoming wise to it. and this time hennessy sports have nipped in there by keeping their ear very close to the ground. im not just blowing hennessy sports trumpet but im dam pleased that we can watch witter etc on the uk side than suffer matthew hatton v latvian pole dancers husbands second cousin twice removed. at least the PPV is more appealing now. will be great to watch the hitman live from vegas, but we are getting a bit more for our money now. im interested how the 2 promoters fill up their undercards for this event. it has the capacity to now be a fantastic night for british boxing. its just a shame that hatton wants no part of witter.

Its only Clinton Woods, FA can show that could really headline a UK leg of a PPV - and he is injured.

The rest of the FA stable aren't of British title standard, so I cannot think they would be part of a UK legged PPV.

The only way a FA card minus Woods would be part of the PPV is if Sky feel Ricky is worthy of PPV on a poor card (and chances are they do). They would probably contemplate putting on a UK card headlined by say Matthew Hatton on Sky Sports.

I agree. Morua has never been anything better than fringe world class and it's doubtful whether he's even that anymore. Morua may well be rated 15 by the WBC but there are at least 25-35 better fighters at the weight. Junior is lucky Hatton's (probably) taking on the winner of the WBC #1/#2 box off. The WBC rankings (outside of Castillo and Harris and Hopkins) looks pretty weak.

Be interesting to see if JLC vs Hatton is as set as being made out. JLC vs Njoudjo (fight of the night, far from a gimmie) is an eliminator for the WBC title.

As Witter won a vacant title, I would imagine the WBC might force Witter to defend against the winner of that fight in a certain number of days.

JLC (or the winner I should say) might just choose that route, especially if Hatton suffers an injury vs Urangutan.

Hatton may be 'linear', but a linear title does not make you undisputed best in a a division and a linear title can be abused by not fighting the best and Hatton is doing just that at the moment. Erdei is linear at 175 but he isn't near the best and doesnt go near the best unless the judges have been sufficiently bribed (Garay).

Witter/Harris/Mbaiye/Judah (hes back) are the top 4 contenders at 140lbs not Castillo who is unproven at 140 aged at 33 (when he fights at 140) got a gift against Cassa and lost and beat Corrales while cheating. Has he been chosen because its suspected Castillo will be aged like many Hatton opponents? Anyway it should be a great fight if Castillo still has IT.

Saying Witter got a gift against Kotelnik is bullshit, Kotelnik did nothing for 6rounds and Witter outworked him in the last round. That makes the scores 7-5. Witter looked bloody awful but he did win it. Hes looked better since by shutting out Corley.

Witter has been learning through mistakes against top10 opponents just like Hatton did when he made mistakes against Magee/Thaxton/Tackie/Phillips. Witter showed stamina and pacing himself problems and Hatton showed defensive problems that nearly saw him getting stopped.

I will give Hatton his props as a true champ (hes a top fighter already)when he faces the best and looks to clean out 140 (which is thin on the ground), any 3 from Castillo, Witter, Judah, Mbaiye, Harris. Or alternatively take the Mayweather fight thats been offered to him on about 5 occasions.

I prefer Witter's style to the Neanderthal high work rate body slamming style that is Hatton's.

I'm a fan of both though and Hatton would not be intimidated if Witter suddenly stopped and was making you wonder whats he upto though. Thats why they need to fight each other, so many questions unanswered.

I favour Witter though If Hattton fights like he did with Callazo, fighting Mayweather or Witter will get him busted up. The way he fought Tszyu was much better.

Thinking back at this thread, is it such a good idea for Witter to be part of the PPV. I mean, no US coverage anyway and a futher restricted UK audience.

I don't know what the viewing figures are of UK PPV's, but I imagine they are not much higher (if at all) than the usual Friday fight night... plus the viewers are only going to be the hardcore fans who already are familiar with Witter and want ot see the match up.

Of course he can, you can't be stripped of/dump a linear title, it can only be won or lost in the ring. As far as I know, nobody has beaten him, and there's nobody else that has a decent claim to the title.
