Thats the fight and fighter I thought I was going to see last year, that performance was definately worth waiting for though. Its difficult to know what Williams had left in the tank going into the fight, but that shouldn't detract from the fact that Audleys performance and attitude in the ring was fantastic. He was leading off far more regularly than he has been, not just countering, and he was exciting to watch.

I'm hoping the Audley-Skelton fight gets remade asap, it'll give us a closure on the domestic scene and Skelton will be a good yardstick to judge the New-Born Audley by, then I can really start to get excited again

He's shut up all the idiots who were coming out with the "no bottle" and "no heart" comments.

Respect to Danny Williams for how he was in the post fight interview, he showed true class. I personally hope he hangs em up now, he's got nothing else to prove.
People who criticised Audley for having no heart etc were perfectly justified in doing so & that does not make them idiots!

Audley was spineless against Williams & to lesser extent, against Guinn.

Just because he has finally shown some fortitude after nearly 7 years as a pro, does not make him the 2nd coming of Joe Louis.

It's easy to be wise after the event & insult people for having valid opinions, but the fact is, he deserved the criticism.

It was probably those critics which brought Audley out of his shell.

Had he listened to his jockstrap carriers, he'd still be walking around still thinking he was Joe Louis or something. :box:
Was he spineless or was he just having a bad time of things??? Calling a boxer spineless and saying he hads no heart is a massive insult, Audley was having troubles outside the ring and it effected him in the ring (that doesn't make him spineless IMO).

Hes sorted his head out and last night he was impressive. Its a good start and nothing more, he's got to perform like that everytime he gets in the ring. Can't wait for the Skelton fight to get remade! :box:
Any ideas what those problems were out of curiosity? I cannot remember Audley being in any trouble and he never said anything before.

Not saying he is not wrong, but he kept saying "well documented problems" (or words to that effect). I check the websites every day and cannot remember anything being mentioned.

Finally got a chance to see the fight here in the states. couple thoughts...

Impressed with Audley's lateral movement.
Danny turned into quite a dirty fighter.
Danny's cutman sucked. He made the swelling twice as bad after the second by pushing the puss straight up into DW's eyes.

The way Audley was with his wife after the fight you can tell that fight exercised a lot of demons for him. I think it showed balls in coming back to the same arena to fight the same fighter he was nationally slated for last year.

Whether Harrison is going to be world class is a massive IF but he showed some nice skills once again and although he is clearly no knockout artist, proved his punches are spiteful enough and maybe showed how little power Skelton actually has. For me Harrison beats Skelton who is not going to be hard to hit on the way in but for me Skelton is fairly crap and pretty evenly matched with this version of Danny Williams so I don't think it will prove all that much.

I don't recall him referring to them as well documented problems, I certainly don't know what they were, but he was getting married and I think his wife was pregnant at the time of the last fight.

A much improved performance from Audley on Saturday, but the Skelton fight should give us a clearer insight, lets get it on!!!

Yes, I think it was "family" problems. Obviously he's just got married and had a child, but I think he was estranged from his mother or uncle or something, and at the time of the last fight with Williams when he was in London he was trying to sort that out. And there's the death of his Godfather too, but I think that was after the Williams and Guinn fights.

KO Artist wrote:Cant say I was impressed by either man.

Wiliams may have been 20 lbs lihter than last time but he was still 19st plus.

I dont think he trained at all, his timing was woeful. I reckon Warren dragged him out of the pie shop a week ago and said ffs dont eat until after the weigh in so your weight is respectable and it looks a fight on paper.

Harrison wouldnt beat any of the four titlists. He's cack.
Hear Hear!

Thank god I've logged into boxrec for a healthy dose of reality. Following Harrisons victory, it felt like I was the last human in that film invasion of the body snatchers, as Rosenthal, McGuigan, Rawling, Uncle Tom Cobbley and all opined about Harrison's 'transformation' and 'rebirth' into a 'genuine heavyweight contender.'

Harrison beat a woefully out of shape, listless and useless version of Williams, who let's face it, was never truly world class except in brief flashes during fights, has always been easy to hit, and who has been in decline probably since the Samil Sam fight or even before. Danny's took a shellacking of Sam, Tyson (although he won), and Klitchsko, and was beaten by Skelton who, wait for it, OUTBOXED HIM!

Yes, yes, Audley actually stood there and threw punches from the off, but FFS, that's what you are meant to do as a fighter, hit people! That this should be seen as the start of Audley's inexorable march to the titles, is simply exercrable. I will give him props for weathering the brief storm, but after 30 seconds of sustained punching, Danny was utterly exhausted and it was a foregone conclusion at that point. The uppercuts he finished him with were good shots, but I think there are other heavyweights out there with much better punch resistance than Danny, who has been wobbled by Michael Sprott and Keith Long, and that was when he was nearer his prime.

I felt rather sorry for Danny afterwards, he cut a very forlorn figure, and looked on the verge of tears. He was extremely manganamous towards Harrisons, despite the bad words before the fight.

Perhaps I will go on to eat my words, but it is far too early to start anointing Harrison as our great heavyweight hope, let's see how he deals with Skelton first, if he can beat Skelton convincingly and actually stand and fight when Skelton comes in mauling, then I'll be halfway to saying he's got potential, but beating up a past it, inconsistent and out of shape last minute replacement proves absolutely fekk all, except that a totally motivated and in shape Harrison can beat a shell of a fighter.

Audley versus Skelton will launch one or the other towards a title shot. Why not? And Audley, on the form he showed against Williams, has a shot if he gets past Matt.

Let's give Harrison a break for a while, because he delivered this time & brought some excitement to the British heavyweights. He needs to look this good all the time and if he's erased the abysmal loss to Williams, he still has the Guinn loss hanging over his head.

He needs to produce a similar performance against Skelton, to prove this was no fluke. Then he could do with a fight against a top 15 type, build up gradually for a world title shot in around 2 years.

Sadly, he's now saying "I don't need Skelton."

Yes, it MIGHT not be, but could they not temper their commentary with just a little cautioin. Why do we always have to oscillate wildly from one extreme to another. One minute Audley is a chicken hearted no hoper, and then after beating an woefully out of shape stand in, he's the future of the division, it's lamentable it really is.

Of course in today's bereft division, Audley stands a chance, but I'd like to see how he coped with someone who was able to sustain more than a 30 second burst of action in 3 rounds and who can actually block punches with something other than their face. I don't know what it is about Danny, but I've noticed how easy it seems to be to punch right through his guard. Klitchsko did it with ease, and so did Harrison.

Can anyone here seriously see Audley coming out on top against a monsterous puncher like Wlad, flawed as he is?

Well the fact is that many fighters have suffered problems outside the ring and not let it affect their performance, in fact quite often they have used the problems as inspiration to spur them on.... thats what makes a champion class fighter and thats why I think Audely will always fall short at the top level... he's got to stop making excuses and stop demanding the publics love, and just get down to it in the ring... Saturday was a step in the right direction, but only a step... some of the hype surrounding the Williams win and Audelys 'second coming' has been as over the top and out of context as was some of the insults that were fired at Audely after the first Williams fight...

I can see him doing well, if he continues to be assertive and use his advantages in size (6'6) and style (southpaw). Though the jury will still be out until he beats a top 10 type.

I don't like his talk of going straight into a world title eliminator. He seems to be getting too big for his boots already.

Typical Audley, always looking for the easy way out. He really is irritating, all that big talk after the win really got on my nerves, we've heard plenty of big talk from Audley already, and we've had one resounding performance, and two absolute stinkers when it counted.

I'll listen to Audley's bigging himself up when I think he deserves to do so.

Bah humbug just give Audley his credit you scrooges!! He had his back against the wall & came out throwing leather and proved us all wrong. Williams by his own admission had been training 8 weeks. Williams put some shots on Audleys his jaw too & he didnt fold (Williams a harder hitter than Skelton) so take it back!!

On that form Audley beats Skelton for the Commonwealth belt, can beat Virchis for the European belt & by middle of 07 he's a legit World title challenger 23-2....

Go Audley!!

Exactly, and now Audely belives he 'doesnt need Skelton' which is rather interesting as Skelton would be a far tougher fight than the Williams who faced Audely on Saturday... Williams was shot and looked far worse than he was in the last Skelton fight. I feel sorry for Skelton, as he seems in danger of being pushed to the sidelines again, he may not have the technique of Audely but I think he's a real 'fighter' while Audely isnt... as for Harrison winng a world title, even Briggs with his power would be a dangerous fight... some people really need to get a sense of perspective... Audely doesnt even deserve a world title shot yet... if he beats Skelton ok, but to say he deserves a shot after beating a shot Danny Williams is nothing really nothing short of laughable...
And I hope Danny retires now, his heart hasnt been in it really since the Klitchenko fight and he's a nice guy with a big heart and it'd be a shame to see him carry on and get beaten again or even worse...

What utter cobblers. On what form? He might as well have been hitting the heavy bag for all the effort Danny showed. It was only in the 3rd that Danny actually threw anything into it, and even then they were big clumsy clubbing shots that weren't landing cleanly.

Audley still looked petrified when Danny came at him, retreating with his head in the air and his arms flapping around by his sides.

If Danny had been in training for 8 weeks, I'm a monkey's uncle, he looked absolutely terrible from the off, and despite being lighter, didn't look in fighting shape at all.

If you want to be conned by Audley, be my guest, but I for one am not that impressed by what was a dismal prospect in the first place.

At least Khan has shown heart in the ring, doesnt mind being hit now and them and remember Khan is only 20 on his 10th pro fight.... God knows I've criticized Khan but I dont doubt the fact that he's got the heart of a fighter, whereas theres still a huge question mark over Audely... you can see the panic in Audelys eyes when he gets hit and it was still there on Saturday...

No, I'm not really an Amir Khan fan, I have some grave doubts about how likely he is to succeed at top level, and feel he is being grossly overhyped at this stage. It's early days, and we have yet to see Khan in with someone who can punch even a bit, who also has experience, and probably won't for some time yet. I don't dislike the lad, but I think he's a bit delusional about where he's at in world terms. I noticed Warren poured water on suggestions of Khan fighting for a wolld title next year, and rightly so, anyone close to world class would absolutely knock his block off at this stage of his career.

Khan is 20 years old and is being relatively spoon fed at this stage, Audley is 34 and has very little time left, and so has to move on a gear. Khan barely even had a career as a senior amateur, whereas Audley had two whole olympic campaigns to his name and more. At heavyweight, the skill level learning curve is also a lot shallower, as technically they tend to be pretty poor compared to where Khan is campaigning.

Yes, that's a good point also, Khan doesn't seem afraid when he gets hit, he looks a bit disorganised when he moves backwards, but doesn't panic and gets on with it, the same certainly cannot be said for Audley.

I thought the whole Williams-Harrison 2 affair was a farce.

Danny was clearly in no shape or condition to box. I hope Warren paid him well for saving his poxy show, becuase he certainly shouldn't have asked him to fight.

Danny was no where and Audley took full advantage of the situation as you should do. BUT even in the short time the fight lasted there were traces of the previous Audley, it's just that this time Audley knew nothing was coming back his way. So bravey was not an issue this time at all.

Audley post fight comments and attitude stunk to high heaven. I've defended the guy countless times but this was the straw that broke the back. He and is career can go down the tube as far as I'm concerned.

Even though Williams was late notice, I don't think Danny could fight much worse than he did in the previous couple of fights with all his grotesque weight.

We can't ignore that Audley beat a late notice Williams. But Audley most definitely fought a lot different to his usual hesitant self. And that too had a big bearing on what happened. By occasionally jabbing, sinking in a left uppercut then stepping right, Harrison made it so Williams couldn't get near him.

Also I liked the way he chose short punches. The left uppercut worked a treat. When he had Williams hurt, Harrison's feet were nailed to the canvas and he absolutely dug in some wicked bopdy shots.

It was definitley the right opportunity for harrison. But he seized it and hopefully this will give him a new approach.
