HATTON V URANGO
Tough fight for Hatton considering he'd have been out of action for more than half a year or a tough, come-forward opponent who will make Hatton look good.
Never seen Urango fight before but from what I've read he's aggressive – but is he much cop?

Ricky is never in a bad fight and is alway entertaining.
Their styles should mesh well (though could lead to head clashes) and from clips I have seen Urango looks built like a brick outhouse with a come forward style although I doubt he has Ricky's footwork, variety and workrate.
Should be an entertaining scrap.

Urango is known for being a come forward powerhouse with a big punch, this will probably be a rough tough fight, with Hatton getting marked up and maybe cut and hurt, and having to overwhelm his opponent with sheer volume of work. One thing which is never in Hatton's favour, is that he isn't really a one punch knockout artist, he doesn't set himself for his head shots as he's always thinking about the next shot.
I think it will be interesting to see if he goes to the body a lot, because of late he seems to have abandoned the style which made him successful, since the Tackie fight, I have not really seen him focus on the body as much as he used to in his earlier fights. I wonder if this is because it was felt he was leaving himself too open?

For me Urango is the perfect opponent for Ricky to showcase the boxing skills he used to beat Tackie for the American audience. It's been a long time since we saw that Ricky though but it will be a welcome return. I can't see Hatton wanting to go toe to toe with Urango with a Castillo fight on the horizon if they both win.
Also what happened to Castillo v Harris?

Yeh, so who has Urange beat to make you come to this conclusion?..the only two half decent fighters he has faced he came away with a Draw and a higley debateable point win.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Urango is known for being a come forward powerhouse with a big punch, this will probably be a rough tough fight, with Hatton getting marked up and maybe cut and hurt,
Or are you saying it will probably be tough for Hatton because he not that good...in which case thats what i said in the first place.

Urango isn't that slow, but i'd agree he isn't the most skilled.SIMPSONS wrote:Bullsheet...read what the Yanks are saying about Urango, he's supposed to be slow and one dimentional.
The word is over there anything less than Fatton hammering this guy within 8 rounds proves he is as overated as they suspect.
Out of interest SIMPSONS, Do you think Hatton is overrated? and if you do why?
and do try not to fill your reply with insults.
Answer; What you should have said is "Please don't insult me in your reply"topper123 wrote:Urango isn't that slow, but i'd agree he isn't the most skilled.SIMPSONS wrote:Bullsheet...read what the Yanks are saying about Urango, he's supposed to be slow and one dimentional.

Answer;I don't know because i havn't seen him fight..but i would rather go by what his home boxing fans are saying about his than idiotic know F.A british fans that are making him out to be something when they have only seen him fight once.

Answer; If your too stupid not to know why Hatton is probably over-rated then i can't be bothered to explain as i have broke it down many times before....we'll see who was wrong in the next 18 months.

I am commenting on his style, not his career. My point is that Hatton's style is such that big punching rough-houses tend to give him a bit of a hard time. Maussa gave him some licks before getting done over, and Maussa is hardly an A-level guy, Urango may well do the same.SIMPSONS wrote:Yeh, so who has Urange beat to make you come to this conclusion?..the only two half decent fighters he has faced he came away with a Draw and a higley debateable point win.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Urango is known for being a come forward powerhouse with a big punch, this will probably be a rough tough fight, with Hatton getting marked up and maybe cut and hurt,

Hatton is not the hardest to hit, and with a few notable exceptions, meets his foes head on, this would indicate that the fight with Urango could be explosive two way action for however long it lasts, especially if Urango turns out to be tough.

This yank agrees w/lenny albert. Urango is a straight forward , not too difficult to figure out banger. Urango is Very strong but he can be outboxed. If Hatton has any ideas of stopping him, he'll be in for a very tough night. Ricky needs to showcase his boxing skills here and forget about pleasing the fans. Hatton has good speed and he can get the W with speed, angles, and boxing. I'm expecting a 12 rd wide unan dec for the Hitman, much like the Tackie fight. Most fans on this side of the pond will rip him but then again, most fans don't know what the hell they are talking about.

I get the impression that Hatton is looking to make a statement though. He surprised a lot of his detractors by boxing Tackie to a standstill, mainly because people didn't realise how skilfully Hatton could be. Against Tszyu he turned Jeff Fenech mauling and rough-housing a fighter he knew could outpunch him from range and bust him up otherwise.
Hatton is versatile, considering his prevalent style, so let's see which way he approaches it.

I wouldn't look too much into the Tackie fight. Ben doesn't carry a load of pop, and he has one hell of a chin, no one KOes that guy, especially at the time Ricky fought him. However, Ben is extremely limited and can easily be out boxed with a very basic attack.jamesmcdonnell wrote:I get the impression that Hatton is looking to make a statement though. Thank you Sir!search wrote:I would just like to welcome simpsons to boxrec and I hope he stays here because I am a fan of his posts. I have been folloing his posts on DHB for a long time but now that he is here, it's great.
I actually have a lot of respect for this site because i have always used their record archive, the forum seems cool aswell....not moderated to fack and not used as a promotional outlet...this is probably why the well known turds are no where to be seen.
The layout is a bit weak though and they should get rid of of that F.W sticky and tell him to go forth.
Supposedly if he beats Urango then Hatton will face Castillo in the summer. Why the long wait and more time out of the ring? Surely if he beats Urango in January then Castillo can happen April/May? Hatton is wasting too much time on the sidelines since the Tszyu fight. He should be fighting 3 or 4 times a year.

It all depends on how good Urango can be and if he'll rise to the occasion. I haven't seen him, from what I've read hes too 1 dimensional, slow but has a dig - does he have a punchers/brawlers chance? Perhaps but hes been chosen as an easy fight. If Rickys underprepared, complacent, rusty, there may be an upset otherwise it should be an emphatic win.
Any insight into Urango and his chances would be welcome

I think he's just fought a couple of guys who were good enough to block them (body punches) to be honest. Collazo had a good defense and Tszyu knew where Hatton would be throwing, so he shifted upstairs. Also, against Tszyu, Hatton was really smothering himself a lot of the time.jamesmcdonnell wrote:

Why wasn't he going to the body against Maussa? I think his style has changed I also think he is quite a bit slower now than he was a 2-4years ago.mrbassie wrote:I think he's just fought a couple of guys who were good enough to block them (body punches) to be honest. By his own admission Ricky fought the wrong fight against Maussa and basically went in there trying to decapitate him. This is definitely the fight for Ricky to showcase his skills, leave the blood and guts battle for the Castillo fight, and show people some of the skills we saw earlier in his career. I'm sure we'd all love this to be Ricky's last gimmie but then I think we felt we'd seen the last of these after Oliveira
