Post by walshb »

Does anyone know the story on Floyd Mayweathers loss to Todorov
in Atlanta. Was it robbery, close or a deserved loss and has anyone got a POST or link to the fight

Thanks

It was a very close fight which could have gone either way which Todorov won 10-9. The Bulgarian was a three-time world champion and three-time european champion, very fast and very slick. Mayweather was leading for a while but Todorov turned it around but in the final seconds Floyd almost caught up. The americans made an official protest but it was ridiculous. Of course Bulgarians got many close decisions at the time (Emil Jetchev was the chairman of the Referee/Judges) but it was not a robbery.
Mayweather got a close/controversial win in his quarter-final vs cuban Lorenzo Aragon, winning 12-11 with Aragon landing a clear shot in the final seconds which did not give him a point.

Thanks for that. Todorov was an alltime great that's for sure. He never did win a gold however, a bit like the Junior Middle Francisc Vastag, who was so dominant but could not strike gold either.

The point is Todorov was an experienced amateur who just got a decision on a teenage Floyd. The mature Floyd would have stopped Todorov.
