Ali is the best boxer of all time

Post by Dave1armedTua »

Nobody could even touch him, let alone beat him. He could beat any boxer you name.

I just saw Ali - Frazier 1 again, on HBO. Ali got his ass handed to him by a one dimensional fighter. Louis, and Lewis would cold cock him. So would so many others.

I just saw Lewis annihilating Tommy Morrison again...what a contrast with the fight with Vitali!

Anyway i don't know if this thread is serious but there are plenty of heavyweight that could at least have "touched" him, and maybe a little more. Not only p4p(case of Louis for example) but also in real life.

Ali only lost the first Frazier fight because he wanted to. He saw how great the odds were and bet everything he had on Fraizer. He made sure he would lose on points so he could get rich. I've spoken with people close to him at that time, and they all agreed.

Sound stupid? Now you know how I feel everytime I hear the same consperacy theory over and over.

ALTHOUGH I SHARE THE BELIEF THAT THE GREAT ONE AT HIS PEAK WAS VERY HARD TO BEAT I DO NOT THINK HE WAS THE GREATEST BOXER. ANGELO DUNDEE HAS STATED THAT ALI'S BOXING FLAW WAS THAT HE DID NOT FIGHT WELL INSIDE -A REASON WHY HE HAD TROUBLES WITH FRAZIER.

FROM A TECHNICAL POINT OF VIEW LOUIS AND CHARLES WERE MORE COMPLETE FIGHTERS THAN ALI.

Ali was comming og a three year layoff and lost to a great
fighter. Ali of 1967 circa would had boxed Joe Louis's ears off
all night long. Float like a butterfly........

Jimmy Young outboxed a fat, long past his prime Ali. Douglas gave Ali a very tough fight, but it's a strong consensus that Ali did deserve the close decision.
But so what? Ezzard Charles and Jersey Joe Walcott boxed Louis' ears off. Oh, that's right, it was a fat, past-his-prime Louis. But you count Ali's past-his-prime performances against him, so to be consistent, you have to count Louis' losses to Charles and Marciano against him, which destroys your argument in favor of Max Schmeling. You shouldn't count Ali's poor performances that came when he was in his 30s against him. He always relied on his reflexes, and that means he deteriorated far faster than most fighters. You can count Ali's performances against Cooper and Douglas against him if you like, but don't act like Ali would never have been a match for for Jimmy Young, when Young fought a 34-year-old Ali who was weighing in at a then career high of 230 pounds.

 Moron, Jones' first name was "Douglas".
I notice you just ignored the rest of my post, and edited out the part about the Young fight. Why? Oh yeah, because you have absolutely no argument against my point.

Ali was one of the greatest of all-time. I wouldn't say that he is the greatest though.

No way was Ali even close to being the Greatest.

He was very overrated.

He might, just might, make my top 20 ATL.

Greatest HW of all-time: probably
Greatest boxer ever: no.

Ali didn't lose to Jones. I saw that fight. The crowd went nuts whenever Jones threw a punch. Ali didn't fight especially well, but still deserved the win.

As a heavy: yes he very probably was. P4P no way, Watch Liston v clay and at the start you'll see Ali/Clay bowing to Ray Robinson and well he might. Ali-greatest heavy of all time, maybe Tyson would've beat him but I personally think the Ali who fought Liston, when he (Ali) was on his A game in the best years he was allowed to fight as opposed to when he fought the likes of Cooper when he was certainly not on his A-game, would've bewildered Tyson and ko'd him late. Tyson IMHO woul've have been a slight favourite against the "comeback" Ali. But I'm getting off the point. Ali modelled himself on Robinson, but Robinson was better (P4P).

so what? Motivation is the point. When a fighter feels threatened by an an opponent and knows he has to be at his best to win he often performs better than an opponent he expects to walk all over, but subsequently gets droppped by does he not, hmm?
