Alex Arthur & 2007?
Arthur will be looking to secure a title-shot in 2007 against on of the top fighters' at 130lbs.
Alex is campaigning in a very talented division. Who, if any of the current elite super-feathers, do you think Alex can beat & why?

Well I tip Manuel Medina to regain (again) an IBF title in the coming year - is mandatory. So thats the route Arthur should take.
I could get slated for this, but Arthur could look at maybe fighting Valero now. Arthur has looked strong in the chin department and he could outbox Valero. However, he won't get that in Britain.
Think he should forget the rest.
I hope he gets his shot though in 2007, its been deserved - he has impressed since his Gomez loss against decent (if not world class) operators generally.

Dont the BBBC have a policy of upholding/honouring suspensions imposed by the Nevada State Commission or any other similarly well regarded body from the States?Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Do we KNOW if Valero can't fight in Britain or are we just assuming that as he is banned from boxing in the States (is that even true...isn't there some dodgy commission that would have him?) that he can't box here either?
Valero would be a good shout though - he looks to have regressed technically to somewhat of a power puncher/brawler as he has fallen in love wih his own weight of dig.

I thought arthur would be headed for a shot at the IBF version considering they have the weakest of the four champs(klassen). But the IBF have moved arthur lower in their ratings for some reason(politics). I like arthur's chances against valero - I heard valero was dropped by mosquera who record suggests he not much of a puncher. But then again arthur has only been in with one puncher if we are honest...and that time he lost. And no i dont think that gulaykavich guy was a huge puncher.

Well Valero supposedly held his own against Morales in sparring and supposedly can use silky skills when he feels the need - its just when your knocking everyone out is there a need? Valero seems like a special talent and the straight up Arthur would get clocked fast imo.TerribleTerry wrote:Dont the BBBC have a policy of upholding/honouring suspensions imposed by the Nevada State Commission or any other similarly well regarded body from the States?Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Do we KNOW if Valero can't fight in Britain or are we just assuming that as he is banned from boxing in the States (is that even true...isn't there some dodgy commission that would have him?) that he can't box here either?

I have watched Valero's sparring with Morales, Santa Cruz and various others from his stay on the west coast and he does indeed seem to have the complete package; but as I said he is in love with his power and this can lead to mistakes.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:

Just because he has the ability doesnt mean that he will use it properly.
He would start an overwhelming favourite against Arthur, but is it so bad to go out on your shield: challenge the elite and see how you stack up.
I for one would respect Arthur for persuing this young lion.

The path of least resistance Nick?nickd wrote:The BBBoC are probably the strictest body in the world there is no way Valero could fight over here.
And he'd knock Arthur into next week.
The IBF is the way forward.
I know from a business point of view this is the right idea but come on, boxing is a sport. Lets see our fighters challenge themselves against the best available competition.
I for one would travel to anywhere in the country to see Arthur-Valero. The venezualan's career has taken on almost a mythical edge.
The IBF champs camp have already said they are willing to fight Arthur in Scotland if the money is right, seems like the easiest fight to make.TerribleTerry wrote:The path of least resistance Nick?nickd wrote:The BBBoC are probably the strictest body in the world there is no way Valero could fight over here.

I cant see him getting a shot at any of the other champions.
As I said before there is no way on earth Valero would be allowed to fight over here.

Alex Arthur 2007
Valero is overrated. Watch him on youtube. Pacquiao would destroy him. His defence is appalling, absolutely open to any decent fighter who can tuck up and counter his wild swings. Shoaib Akhtar is a faster bowler than Glenn McGrath .... doesn't make him better. Yes Valero can punch, but he is hugely flawed as a fighter.

If Medina picks up the IBF title, then I suspect Arthur will challenge - Other than that, I see no more than a steady year defending against relatively easy competition.
Arthur is a good fighter, but he has been matched carefully/excellently since the Gomez mullering. I still think there are a few demons there to be exposed, and it will happen if he steps in with a banger.

I think it will be Arthur against the winner of Medina/Klassen in the Summer.
Digressing slightly though - in the meantime - what do you think of this? Arthur has vacated the EBU title. He could plausibly fight an aliminator or something, but as getting him a voluntary shot against the IBF champ looks the way it will go, that seems doubtful.
So...anyone think we might see Arthur-Harrison? Jim Watt recently said he'd like to see it. This would be a non-title fight, but the winner should get the IBF shot; a better weight for Harrison, plus, a massive fight for Scotland and the UK in general.
I know, Harrison's "problems" are a massive question mark to whether it could, or even should, go ahead for next year. And personally I'd ask the same. However, if Harrison and his team were serious, then it would be a massive fight, and Frank would have the winner pretty much sealed a world title shot.

I would have thought that he would not pass the BBBofC's criteria, as he has suffered a brain injury previously. Look at the trouble McCulloch had and he didn't even have an injury per se.TerribleTerry wrote:Dont the BBBC have a policy of upholding/honouring suspensions imposed by the Nevada State Commission or any other similarly well regarded body from the States?Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Do we KNOW if Valero can't fight in Britain or are we just assuming that as he is banned from boxing in the States (is that even true...isn't there some dodgy commission that would have him?) that he can't box here either?

I cannot imagine that Valero would be passed to fight in this country.

Yes, you would have to say it seems to make sense whatever way you look at it.jomothepure wrote:I think it will be Arthur against the winner of Medina/Klassen in the Summer.
