The Pan Am Games will NOT be an Olympic qualifier this time. The only time it was an Olympic qualifier was in 2003. For US boxers they had to win the National Box-Offs even though they had qualified internationally.
Aaron Garcia, Juan McPherson and Jason Estrada qualified in Santo Domingo 2003 but only Estrada won the US Olympic box-offs eventually leading to the US not qualifying in the featherweight division.

Just like 2003 - 2004 we may have boxers who qualify for the Olympics, but then do not make the US Olympic squad. I still believe the qualifiers should qualify a country in a weight class and not a particular athlete.boxmel wrote:Interesting note - AIBA says the Pan Ams ARE an Olympic qualifier. USOC is checking. Stay tuned.
