yeah was just gonna say that. Haye is an excellent boxer when he puts his mind to it. I remember the first three round against lasse johannsen... lasse couldnt lay a glove on haye. But thats the big question about haye, he shows flashes of brilliance but can put it together on a concisent basis and against a world class fighter/puncher? I tell you what i'd like to find out.

Hayes going to be at HW very soon though, so it seems like a now or never type of fight to me.stujones wrote:Think Haye should be a little bit more patient. For me, £150,000 doesn't seem like alot of money for a potential unification match.
I think this is a potentially million pound fight. I think should Haye LOSE to Bell, then maybe the £150,000 deal could be considered.
Even though we are gutted that Witter and Hatton hadn't fought, if they do now - look how much more cash is on the table. This is just potentially one fight away from being a massive even global fight. It will be a big domestic dust up, even if Haye is unsuccessful. Then I think the figures Haye is one about is roughly correct.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think there just seems to be alot of hot air coming from both sides, because until both sides can realistically resolve who promotes the fight then it's not going to happen, both promoters obviously don't want to see one of their stars fighting on a rivals bill, so some sort of compromise has to be made and they've got to be willing to give a little. They've got to go thru that for a fight that both sides deep down know that they could lose, due to the others power........but its these are the aspects of the fight that make it GREAT!!
Having 2 young British one-punch knockout artists on the World scene at the same time doesn't happen very often. Its a casual fans (and my) dream fight IMO. If It were to go out on ITV they'd be able to roll the read carpet out in terms of buildling the fight, everybody would tune in if they know that they're guarenteed a knockout

Makes a lot of sense when you consider Warren fights have a recent history of getting cancelled/postponed. Haye/ Macca is a worthy bill topper in its own right. The Blade wrote:Maccarinelli - Haye on undercard of Calzaghe - Manfedo makes some sense on April 7. Big fight for ITV

True, especially with putty hands topping the bill.Taki... wrote:Makes a lot of sense when you consider Warren fights have a recent history of getting cancelled/postponed. Re: Haye
But it doesnt make 'sense' because Fwank's latest cash-cow is at risk of losing and not making fwank so much money in the future. Therefore as someone else has already alluded to, it will only make real 'sense' if Fwank gets future options on Haye - should Haye win.Taki... wrote:Makes a lot of sense when you consider Warren fights have a recent history of getting cancelled/postponed. Allegedly has no intention of making this fight, all offers will be scuppered with unreasonable demands. Haye's European opposition has been much better than Macarinelli's standard of foes, Macarinelli is a good fighter but holds his paper title by default anyway. A second win over Hobson proved little on a greater scale to me.
I genuinely believe Haye wants the fight and so does his team hence the offer, i don't think it is just a publicity stunt. At least the public are getting interested in the fight after this offer in Boxing News though.

I agree with Stujones, £150k each is peanuts. It reflects that whilst this is one of the most exciting fights out there at the mo, its miles away from being one of the most sellable fights in global boxing.
The point being, these guys are both on the brink of being involved in such a fight, just not with each other.
If this fight happens whilst these two are unbeaten before 2008, i'll fight the pair of them dressed up as Foghorn Leghorn.

Call me naive but £150,000 seems reasonable enough to me. Who outside of the UK gives a shit about this fight bar the hardcores? Sometimes this "building up the fight until it's worth more" logic just serves to scupper good matchups.Abbo wrote:I agree with Stujones, £150k each is peanuts. That's my point, no-one cares at the mo, so £150k is fair.steve689 wrote:Call me naive but £150,000 seems reasonable enough to me. My point is that if both fighters won their next two fights, it's a seven figure fight.
Seven figures? I dont think so.Abbo wrote:That's my point, no-one cares at the mo, so £150k is fair.steve689 wrote:Call me naive but £150,000 seems reasonable enough to me. The problem there is that both men cannot be relied upon to win their next two fights, especially if, as expected, one of Haye's matches will be against Bell (or Mormeck). If they don't get through their respective fights then this fight won't have half the interest that's there now. Let's not forget what happened to the light-middles. If the fight is there to be made, I say make it.Abbo wrote:That's my point, no-one cares at the mo, so £150k is fair.steve689 wrote:Call me naive but £150,000 seems reasonable enough to me. Thats true, perhaps my estimation of a million pound fight was a bit much.states wrote:£150 grand isn't peanuts at cruiserweight though. Bell only got $150 grand for the Mormeck fight apparently. And Johnny Nelson, who must have had a few decent paydays in his years abroad, held out for £150,000 for the fight that never happened against Enzo.
However, I think with terrestial TV backing a world title and an exciting style - Maccarinelli should be making at least the same money per title defence (against anyone) as Nelson made for his biggest purse.
I think should Haye beat bell (with US coverage) then he should be generating more than Nelson earned per defence, by a significant margin. Haye could be a potential superstar.
How much did James Toney get for fighting Jirov?
