His 1922 bout with Ray Thompson of Seattle is reported as occurring Aug. 4, not April 8, per the Tacoma News Tribune of Aug. 5.

Bump! I find it hard to believe that heavyweight Tunney had two bouts within two days, which would be the case if that April 8 date is correct. As Thompson was a "local boy," I suspect that the TNT date of August 4 is correct. Anybody have another source? (What was the source for the bout entered into the database?)

The August 4th date is confirmed by the '54 RRB. The April 8th date is from Fight Fax. The NY Times, Tuesday August 1st--The Ocean Park A.A. of Long Branch, NJ will conduct a twelve round bout between Gene Tunney and Ray Thompson on Friday night.
