agree with whoever said that hatton was being 'punished' for winning vs Collazo - at the end of the day too many people are willing to make an absolute prediction on fights, when in reality anything can happen - look at hatton tyszu or calzaghe-lacy, two fights where it did not really turn out the way the majority viewed it
I was a bit shocked at first by how Hatton struggled against Collazo but looking back it was a pretty decent win. It was his first fight at welterweight against a decent champion. Moving up to a new weight usually takes bit of time to be comfortable especially without an ideal preperation.
I'm sure we're going to see a lot more from Hatton in the next couple of years. Hatton v Castillo should be a corker. Looking forward to that one if it gets made.
The Weight excuse was crap, Hatton was still pushing Callazo back. Hatton struggles with that kind of style.
Does anyone doubt he'll make light Welter? Hasn't made it for over a year and he put on muscle for Welterweight when he could of just dehydrated less water.
Anyone see Hatton and Graham on BBC news the other day, was more about Graham and his interests. Whats so scary about Liston? He said Hatton and Macklin was afraid of it.
Always thought Hatton was going to be a champion. Thought he was ready for geniune top ten talent after he beat Jason Rowland (well certainly after he beat Eamonn Magee).
However, I did think he would only win a portion of the title. I always thought Cotto, Mayweather and Tszyu would be too good for him. Always liked him vs Zab, but I still think that would be a cracker.
I still think two of those 3 would beat him (although for Cotto to win now it would have to be at 147). To be honest, I don't think Hatton has improved much at all since his early WBU days - always been a talent, but I don't see much major gains. He caught Tszyu at the perfect time.

I agree. Good observation. I've admitted plenty of times I found Hatton's fight with Tszyu and Collazo to be pretty horrible. Simply because I didn't like that "smothering" punch and grab style. This is a great clip for posters who haven't seen Hatton's older style too much (such as myself). He does look like a talented and entertaining fighter here. Although it is against a beginner's opponent, he fights more like an accomplished amateur here than like his John Ruiz imitation in recent fights. I can see he is a very good tactician, he must have felt the easiest way to beat Tszyu would be the way he did however, in the eyes of many boxing fans, it was a near cowardly tactic to use. I remember I had heard good things about Hatton and I had seen him once or twice, I visited my father for that weekend and he asked me who Hatton reminded me of, I said, "Well, he fights similarly to a young Julio Cesar Chavez." At the time it was the closest comparison I could find even though it proved to be a bad one. After the fight, my father said, "This garbage is not boxing. I never want to see this fighter again." I myself agreed as I was disappointed (ironically, we both saw the Hatton vs Collazo fight). I'd appreciate it if any other video's of Hatton's early fights can be uploaded. My father has no idea how to operate a computer but I can show him that Hatton isn't really as bad as he thought.
The JCC comparison is quite apt IMO. I remember saying to my brother during the Magee fight that if he didn't bounce so much and glided in the way that the great Mexican did he would be a little sharper and more primed to deliver more effective combos without getting clipped so much on the way in. Hatton fought the Zoo fight in exactly the way he should have to win that particular fight. I am just a bit disappointed that he carried the same tactics into his subsequent fights. I think he has more to him than his last fights show and what his earlier career suggested. Now he's back at 140 who knows what he may produce and show.
I am worried that although Hatton will make the lightwelterweight limit, the drop down from welterweight may take something out of him . Losing muscle as well as fat to make the limit. He didn't look like he had any fat to spare at 147 for the Collazo fight. I hope I'm wrong.
I think Hatton can't carry on fighting the way he has since the Tszyu fight. If he carries on I feel he will slip up soon.

I agree that I don't think Hatton has improved these last few years. I remember watching him dismantle Krivalopov and thinking 'this lad has what it takes'. Hopefully January will see the old Ricky back. And let's face it, Urango really isn't much more than some of the WBU opponents Hatton faced.
