Let me ask you something Anton - just why do you have such a raging hard-on for this issue? You seem to doubt VanesBoxing, I do not. Eagle Kyowa is a Thai living in Japan, where he has for quite some time, yet he is listed as Thai on BoxRec - why? Why don't you find out from Vic Darchinyan personally instead of Billy Hussein? At the end of the day, even though he's his trainer, it's what Darchinyan wants, not Hussein.AntonS wrote:We'll soon find out.
I've sent his trainer Billy Hussein a message - asking him to double check with Vic.
I also suggested if Vic wishes to be listed as Armenian, they contact IBF & IBO and request they do likewise.
Cheers
VIC DARCHINYAN is ARMENIAN - NOT Australian

This is a fine idea. I know Billy Hussein myself, and he is a great guy, you should definitely ask him, and you will get your answer.AntonS wrote:We'll soon find out.

100% Billy will say VIC is Armenian first and foremost, then Australian if only by current residence and citizenship.
I don't have Vic's personal contact details. But, at the same time, the best policy is not to stick ones nose between boxer - trainer- manager...unless one needs clarification who trains or manages him.Why don't you find out from Vic Darchinyan personally instead of Billy Hussein?
Billy is a top bloke, as are his brothers boxers Hussy & Skinny, and there would be no reason for him to lie to me.

Stick your nose between them? Like I said, I don't understand your seemingly raging hard-on regarding this issue. Is it because you feel he needs to declare himself an Aussie out of pride or what? Just what is the reason?AntonS wrote:I don't have Vic's personal contact details. Well let's just see what Billy Hussein says.AntonS wrote:Scott
Facts are facts.
When one takes out Aussie citizenship one relinquishes his/hers other nationality.
Whilst he/she can still claim/maintain/act to be other than Aussie lawfully he/she is an Aussie.
Who the hell are we to overturn that?
BTW - my kids are Thai and U.S. citizens - they carry two passports.
There’s no such thing as dual citizenship in OZ.
Either one is an Australian or Ugandan, Filipino or whatever that’s been granted permanent residency.
There’s no difference between an Aussie & Permanent Resident as far as Government benefits are concerned – medical, pension, unemployment etc etc so why obtain citizenship other than to be recognized an Aussie?
Permanent residents can't obtain an Aussie passport, but can be issued with Certificate of Identity, which has to be renewd yearly.
Naturally, they are always subject to deportation in the event they stuff-up......after serving their time in jail.

Say what you will, my kids are Thai and American and carry passports for both countries. They are afforded everything Thai's and American's are in and out of each country.AntonS wrote:There’s no such thing as dual citizenship.

Now if you ask them what they are, they'll simply say Loouk Kroung which is a half-half baby.
I edited my post. There’s no such thing as dual citizenship.
It ends with 'in OZ'
There's no Loouk Kroung here lol!
I must say when I was 10 I think a used 'half half baby' term.

The bottom line is it really doesn't matter what you think. What matters is whether or not he is legally considered an Armenian by Armenia.
Just like me kids are Thai and American, he may very well be Armenian and Australian - but at the end of the day, if he considers himself Armenian what's the problem with listing him as an Armenian?

WTF does his problems have to do with the nationality shown on BoxRec?AntonS wrote:Scott
Just leave it alone for time being. You've got no idea the probs Vic was faced with in the past.
I reckon, as some of the editors suggested, we should ditch nationality.
Just what is your problem with him calling himself Armenian?
If the guy is legally an Armenian in Armenia, whether or not he is considered an Australian by Australians or you Anton, he's born in Armenia and is an Armenian. I don't see the problem with his being deemed an Armenian but maybe if Hussein convinces you then you'll think of him as such.

I understand your sarcasm and humor, but I really dont understand how or why YOU got to be an Editor.AntonS wrote:Only after I try to talk him into being Slovenian.Uh, and if he says he's an Armenian I take it you'll then consider him Armenian?
Not only does Slovenia need a world champ...it friggin needs boxers full stop.
We had one....WBF champ Stjepan Bozic, but he escaped to Zagreb (Croatia).![]()

You seem very irrational and hard headed. I have given you more fact than you can possibly handle, but you keep going on and on.
Dual citizenship is possible, and VIC IS BOTH AN ARMENIAN AND A AUSTRALIAN CITIZEN. So that theory of yours is also a farse.
here, right from your Aussie Govnt website.
http://www.citizenship.gov.au/australia ... l-citz.htm
Can I become a citizen of another country without losing my Australian citizenship?
Yes, provided the other citizenship is acquired after 4 April 2002.
Simply because I'm the one that OZ government boxing regulators gives the results, which BoxRec is all aboutbut I really dont understand how or why YOU got to be an Editor.
Apart from that I know most of OZ boxers and I'm a member of Australian National Boxing Federation's ratings committee.
There's more, but that's all you really need to know.
Cheers
Interesting discussion
I have 1 solution of nationality problem that i use
Important is if a boxer has double citizenship or the only one
If an armenian obtained russian passport and still use his armenian he is an armenian
if an armenian obtained russian passport and gave up armenian passport he is russian

Re: VIC DARCHINYAN is ARMENIAN - NOT Australian
this is a massive bump..
the whole issue is about Vic trying to keep as broad a fan base as possible..therefore he keeps his actual loyalty evenly divided between Armenia and Australia. its a smart move, he now has twice as many fans just by remaining ambiguous.

Re: VIC DARCHINYAN is ARMENIAN - NOT Australian
is there no way of listing him as both just to stop the argument?
