Team Haye step up attempts to make cruiserweight clash a reality
As negotiations for a blockbuster showdown between cruiserweights David Haye and Enzo Maccarinelli head towards a standstill, Londoner Haye, promoter Frank Maloney and manager Adam Booth are making one last attempt to salvage the mouth-watering contest.
Team Haye are offering Maccarinelli and the Welshman’s promoter allegedly an ‘open’ set of fresh negotiations.
Maloney said: “allegedly knows that David is free for one fight, to box on his show in Cardiff in April, if that is what it takes to get this fight on.”
Haye’s trainer/manager Adam Booth further explained: “The idea is for myself, David and Frank Maloney to meet up with Enzo Maccarinelli and allegedly at an arranged location and thrash out the negotiations for this fight as soon as possible.”
Team Haye also hope Warren will accept an invitation to a press conference immediately after the negotiations. They hope that, whether negotiations are fruitful or not, all of them will greet a bevy of British press to explain why the fight has or has not been made.
“We want to simplify the whole process,” Booth stated. “ We want to make sure that everyone is immediately aware of what transpires from the negotiating table and subsequently, if the fight doesn’t happen, knows exactly who is ducking who.”
“The only reason for this meet-up not to happen is if allegedly and Enzo Maccarinelli decline our invitation. Though that will be a massive disappointment, it will also show who genuinely wants the fight to happen and who wants to avoid the fight at all costs.”
As far as European champion Haye is concerned, the fight can’t come soon enough.
“I’ve been dieting all through Christmas in the hope that this fight happens,“ the 18-1 (17) Haye said. “April 2007 is my only timeframe for this fight. After that month passes, my career schedule will only include O’Neil Bell at cruiserweight. If this fight isn’t signed by January 7, 2007, then it will never happen.
“We have offered Enzo a career highest purse of £150,000, and we are now increasing that to £180,000. Enzo labelled the £150,000 offer ‘derisory’, but what he must remember is that when O’Neil Bell and Jean-Marc Mormeck competed in a unification fight in January 2006 they both got £103,000. When that’s taken into account, it’s clear to see we are serious about making this fight.”
Such is Haye’s desire to simply make the contest a happening, the Bermondsey fighter is eager to discard titles and rankings.
“Let’s get one thing straight; I am going out of my way to try and make this fight,” he continued. “If it weren’t for the fans demanding this match-up I wouldn’t bother with it. I’m next in line for the WBC title, and, I’m sure most would agree, the WBO title is a major step down from the WBC championship. After all, Enzo won his WBO belt against a faded ex-British champion he’d already beaten (Mark Hobson).
“As far as this fight with Maccarinelli is concerned, titles are needless. It’s the fight that matters. I’m happy to fight him no strings attached.
“The incentives are all in Enzo’s favour. He has openly said he is chasing a fight with O’Neil Bell, and a win over me – with the rankings I have – would let him leapfrog the rest of the queue. By beating me Maccarinelli gets the chance to secure a WBC mandatory position as well as prove he’s the best cruiserweight in Europe. What more does he want?”
The incentives for Haye? The European king simply can’t pass up a challenge.
“allegedly tried to take the shine off my win over Giacobbe Fragomeni (in November) by saying I had dodged Maccarinelli and that his fighter would destroy me. As soon as I saw that I was determined to make the fight happen and prove him wrong. Warren clearly didn’t expect that response. He just wanted to stick some throwaway lines in his newspaper column and hope it did the job (of discrediting Haye’s career-best win over Fragomeni).
“We called his bluff. I’m always up for a challenge, but is Enzo Maccarinelli? I’ve proven myself by fighting WBC-ranked fighters, unbeaten contenders and experienced ex-world champions. I’ve taken risks in my career. Can Enzo look himself in the mirror and say the same thing? I very much doubt it.”
Team Haye hope that, after months of back-and-forth counter claims, a Haye-Maccarinelli clash will be given the green light for April - whether on a Sky Sports-televised Maloney promotion or a Sports Network show on ITV.
“We want this fight now that they (Warren and Maccarinelli) have made rash claims about Enzo’s chances of victory” Booth concluded. “If allegedly and Enzo Maccarinelli feel the same way, we fully expect them to accept our invitation, negotiate, agree terms, get this fight signed and then meet the press to announce it.”
“We await their response and hope that they are as determined as us to make this bout happen!”

Good luck to Haye. He genuinely wants to make the bout. He seems one of the few fighters' who wants the fans to be re-paid i.e. with a big fight etc.
If & when the fight does happen, I would definitely want to be there. I think it would be a bit a grudge fight. If the fight does not happen, it will not be because of Haye, that's for sure.
It'll be interesting to see how allegedly allegedly responds to this. Just reading the article, Macarinelli has real incentives to take the fight.
If it does take place, I reckon Haye by KO.
Hope this one comes off!

like i said before:
Haye is the bigger man i.e struggling to make weight and moving to heavy and so i think he will be the bigger puncher and stronger on the night. Why would Warren want to put Enzo in with Haye? If Haye wins (and the WBO title is not on the line) then Warren has a WBO champion who isnt even the best in the UK. Instead Warren could have Enzo defend his title to beatable opponents for the next dozen defences and make say 1 or 2 million? and build up the hype for Enzo.
So which option do you think he will prefer?
If he doesnt make this match I want to put a complaint in to ITV ( WE SHOULD ALL DO THIS) and I will never go to any of his productions again.
But if this fight gets on the Calzaghe - Manfredo bill then Im there with a prime seat!! IF not , then fornicate the sports network promotions.

This fight is all there is left for Haye at cruiser. If he thinks he'll get a shot at Bell he's got another thing coming. The cruiser champion only fights once a year and the lucky benificiary for 2007 is Mormeck so once thats over that'll be it till 2008
Bell appears a very hard man to get through the ropes and the way Haye's carrying on he's more likely to be entering Mr Universe than fighting for a cruiser title by then.
I fancy Enzo to KO Haye. They both have the power to ice one another but I'd go for Enzo as he's been tested and come through while Haye hasn't yet and although Fragomeni was tough he wasn't getting the best of Haye at any stage. Enzo has come through adversity and shown not only can he end it when the chips are down (Scott and Dominguez) but also dig in and slug it out (Hobson).

but unfortunately for enzo, haye carries more power than any opponent enzo has faced before. i dont think the fight will go 3 rounds either way, but my money woill be on haye by tko, early doors.holyfields_ear wrote:This fight is all there is left for Haye at cruiser. I'm not convinced this is just a case of "who connects first". Yes it seems unlikely the fight would go the distance but that would surely be down to conditioning IMO, where Enzo appears to have a clear advantage.
The fact that Haye is chasing this fight does not make me any more confident about his chances. I really admire his old-fashioned attitude but we've seen it before with the Thompson fight, and all he has done since is get bigger and slower.

I don't beleive Haye will be facing Bell for the WBC title anytime soon either.....but that's because Mormeck will beat him in March.holyfields_ear wrote:This fight is all there is left for Haye at cruiser. Haye v Mormeck in London, summer 2007 anyone???
If this fight could be made,it would completely dwarf Haye/Macca.
Also, how is Macca the only fight left at cruiser for Haye?
Haye has still got to prove something at this weight, and there are plenty of better cruisers out there than the paper champion that is Macca.
IMO Macca needs Haye a lot more than Haye needs him, which makes no sense of Macca's refusal to share a ring with Haye in April

Personally I'd like to see Haye Vs Macca as much as if not more than Haye vs Bell/Mormeck, but I can't see any reason why both can't happen. Haye -Macca and Bell - Mormeck with the winners to meet each otheryiddo14 wrote:I don't beleive Haye will be facing Bell for the WBC title anytime soon either.....but that's because Mormeck will beat him in March.holyfields_ear wrote:This fight is all there is left for Haye at cruiser. It is the only fight left for Haye at cruiser because the man himself said there are only two fights at cruiser he'll stick around for:yiddo14 wrote:Also, how is Macca the only fight left at cruiser for Haye?

Now if Bell and Mormeck are fighting in March, that means with the track record of both fighters we can expect the winner to fight again hmmm say end of the year at the earliest. Going by what David Haye has said himself about his weight troubles will he be able to make cruiser by then? And even if he could make the weight would it be worth his career stagnating all that time? So based on these reasons I don't think its entirely unreasonable to consign a Haye fight vs Bell/Mormeck to the dustbin leaving..... a fight with EnzoApril 2007 is my only timeframe for this fight. After that month passes, my career schedule will only include O'Neil Bell at cruiserweight. If this fight isn't signed by January 7, 2007, then it will never happen.
I disagree about Enzo needing a fight with Haye more than vice versa. Haye's team is making by far the most noise about this fight and that should tell you something! Enzo has a belt and if matched correctly he could make a number of defences stretching into double digits and that adds up to serious cash. So what he does he gain from fighting Haye? All he does is risk losing his belt and with it a load of top dollar! If he beats Haye what does he gain? Sweet FA. But Haye gains exposure on prime time ITV, a world championship belt and a bumper payday before he moves up to heavyweight. Enzo has it all to lose and Haye has it all to gain no wonder he's desperate for the fight to be made.
