Harry Greb vs Jack Johnson Exhibition.

Post by KOJOE90 »

Apparently a young Harry Greb once boxed an exibition with the then former Heavyweight Champion Jack Johnson. I think it may have taken place at Kid Howards Gym in Chicago, but I don't now when.

The following quote is from a Harry Greb biography.
When Greb was coming up and Jack Johnson was going down they boxed a four round exhibition in Kid Howards gymnasium in Chicago.

"It was a pleasure workin' with you, Jack," Greb said, and Johnson, the first Negro to hold the heavyweight championship, said, "Its almost impossible to set you up for a punch. You're the fastest man I ever boxed."
Does anyone know any more about this clash of titans? :box:

No. But I do recall that 'Caveman' Bob Moha once fought an exhibition with Jack Johnson when he was champion and Johnson was so impressed he wanted to have Moha join his training tour and do more exhibitions. I think there might have been talk of an actual match.
