I have looked but I cant find even a replica belt. Would be such a great belt to have in the house.
Does anyone know where to buy one? I have tried ebay - none there , only American wrestling belts. How much would a real one cost? If only I could win one.

Lonsdale belts are only won, i don't think that any replica belts are authorised. As for cost of one in an auction , it would depend on who was the boxer who won the belt.
But you will be looking at least a couple of grand IMO, and thats on the cheap side.

If you are interested then look out for sport auctions at houses like Bonhams or such like

Even Bobby Vanzies made over 5k recently on ebay, so it would be virtually impossible now that price has been set to get one for much cheaper than that unless you knew a fighter that had one and was willing to sell directly to you.

Years ago I used to work with someone who's dad was a bit of a crook. This lad's dad used to drink in the same pub as Alan Rudkin, who sadly had fallen on hard times.

This crook offered Alan £10,000 for his Lonsdale belt. Thankfully Alan turned it down.

recent sale show the value of these sought after belts, Tancy Lee (first person to defeat Wilde) featherweight belt sold for £19,000.

Randy Turpin's Lonsdale belt was sold at auction for £23,000 a few years back. I would imagine even a belt from a much lesser known fighter would still fetch no less than £5,000.

The belt is crafted from gold and porcelain and is therefore very expensive to produce.

Billy Wells

"Bombardier" Billy Wells from London's East End was the first British Heavyweight to win the Lonsdale Belt back in 1911 where he defeated Ian Hague with a knockout in the sixth round.

He defended the title thirteen times, a record that stood for many years, before losing against Joe Beckett in February 1919. The Lonsdale Belt that he won was the original heavyweight belt and is crafted from 22 carat gold unlike later belts.

BBC London have managed to track down this historic belt and we can exclusively reveal that the Belt is kept at The Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, South East London. The belt however is not on display to the general public.

The original Heavyweight Lonsdale Belt won by Bombardier Billy Wells in 1911.

A Friend of mine won one in the Super-featherweight category and I've held it. The gold parts are solid 9carat gold.

Freddie Gilroy's was supposedly 'stolen' or left on a bus he was riding in a drunken state - or perhaps he sold it off, who knows.

I remember asking a long time ago about the 'tracing' or where abouts of Lonsdale Belts...now the thing I was thinking was that I'm sure most belts were kept in good, safe places by the holders and or their families, but what of the odd one that may have been held by, shall we say an un-refined fighter and his family...surely many of them would have been sold on or stolen(?).

anyhow be nice to trace a bunch, be they in the hands of collectors, or dealers or Pubs even, that one could view them.

use to be the most sought after belt in the sport, for value that is, 1909 til about the 50s or something!

Depends if he's collecting. I do. I came close to buying Hatton's IBO replica and DLH WBC Welterweight belt last year.

Chickened out at the last minute.

Ronnie Claytons Lonsdale belt sold for £2,938 in 2006 auction at Bonhams, so its not always a big price for them
