Jack Gardner highly rated Brit in title bout
Still fiddling about with the title bout programme ,today did a 16 man tourney for the British title ,was won by Lennox Lewis .No surprise there but the other finalist was Jack Gardner who is only rated behind Lewis and Farr but ahead of Cooper ect. in the initial rankings. What was he like,did he have potential? you hardley ever here his name mentioned now.
From what I can recall of Gardner he was a big strong guy, bit slow but durable and carried a reasonable punch. In ranking British heavys I'd put him below Lweis, Farr, Cooper, Bruno, and probably Cockell (if you rank Don as a heavy).
I never saw him fight, so I'm basing above on a combo of radio commentary, memory and reading.
