Manny Pacquiao vs Wilfredo Gomez
Suppose these two warriors hooked up in battle who do you think would be the last man standing?

I agree with this post. Many people seem to remember Gomez in his later years. A prime Gomez would stop Pacqiao in my opinion. I've had an interesting conversation with a friend about Morales, he told me once, "A prime Morales stops Pacqiao." I don't know if i'd disagree, but it always gets me thinking of a great match up, Gomez vs Morales at 122, arguably both fighters best weight. That being said Gomez stops Pacqiao at 122, decisions him at 126 and 130.elmersalsa wrote:Manny Pacquiao is not of the quality of a terror like Wilfredo Gomez, who was a COMPLETE FIGHTER. Gomez kills him in any weight class from 122 to 130.

I agree completely with this. Many people see Gomez the puncher, but he was a phenomenal boxer at his best. Pacqiao is an extraordinary unorthodox southpaw power puncher, but he lacks a bit of technical skills. Gomez sometimes showed brilliant boxing skills though, Marquez showed a good boxer can outbox Pacqiao. Gomez was a spectacular boxer with power to match Pacqiao much like you said, and he had a hell of a lot of heart and a good chin. He would usually take a lot of hellish shots before finally going down. I don't see a prime Gomez losing to a prime Pacqiao in a match up between the two.theone wrote:Because of all the spectacular ko's alot of people forget what an outstanding boxer Gomez was. He could easily match Pac-man in the punching department, and was a much better technical fighter to boot.
Gomez TKO 11.

Pacquiao isn't getting any better....the only thing that keeps him around is the old guard is changing.......he happens to be the beating the best as they age. Prime on prime Morales beats him everytime. Any decent FW does. Pacquiao is a punch in circles can't box for crap southpaw....he is painful to watch, swinging in circles, 90% off balance, head down, no jab....typical southpaw....
Gomez out boxes him and never even has to throw a right hand. It would be no contest in a boxing skills department.

I'm a big Gomez fan....but you guys are smoking crack if you think Gomez would easily beat PacMan at 126 (and even more foolishly at 130).
Gomez was stopped 3 out of his 6 fights at 126 to 130 - He did not bring his power (nor chin) up to those weights...
His only real win of not at 126 or above.... 15 MD over Rocky Lockridge at 130 was a gift decision by many who have seen it....it could have gone either way IMO....
As I said...at 122....Gomez KO's PacMan.
At 126...it is a pick'em.....in that I respect Gomez's termendous boxing skills that often get over looked (PacMan early...or Gomez late at 126).
At 130....PacMan would own him....and TKO him inside of 8.
