Foreman vs. Lewis!

Post by HeavyHitters »

Who would you favor to win if a young George Foreman fought a Lennox Lewis in his prime? How do you think the Old George would figure against Lewis?

I honestly think Lennox beats any version of George. Only because George simply coudn't avoid that big right hand, and Lennox was more mobile than George.

Although I rank Lewis slightly higher in my AT HW list, and I tend to think George is a bit over rated by most, Foreman is a bad matchup for Lewis. I'll go for the option that I can't pick, Foremen by KO.

Logic says that if average fighters like McCall & Rahman can starch Lewis, Foreman would have put him in orbit! :o

However, I do think that Lennox would have been very respectful of Foreman & when Lewis had something to fear, he was devastating at times.

Add in the fact theat Lewis was 2 stones (28lbs) heavier, more nimble, stronger & a better boxer, all adds up to a Lewis win, most probably on points. :box:

Foreman KO 3

The lumbering Lewis wouldnt of had the strength, the jab or the quickness to get Big George of him. George would cut the ring off, outjab Lewis and send him to orbit with one of his sledgehammers.

The only way I see Lewis even lasting the distance if he holds and continues to hold for dear life.

When Lewis respected(maybe even feared)a fighter,he was generally awesome.
Foreman in his prime would have meant the most prepared, focused Lewis there had ever been.
Which,in turn, spells defeat for Big George.
Lennox win by KO,round 7(ish)

I know Foreman was quoted that he felt Lennox Lewis was better than Muhammad Ali, or at least the Ali who fought Foreman in 1974. And when Foreman announced his comeback in 2004 he was asked if he would fight Lewis, and he said that he only wanted the Klitschko's. And Foreman never did fight Lewis when he was in the 90's.

Not to say george was ducking lewis, but kinda makes you wonder.

I think the 'prime' George was fast, and powerful, but was sloppy as hell and would get frustrated if he didn't get his man early---the old george was a better fighter than he was in his prime, but his cross defense, combined with his age, made him rather slow.

Lewis did show he could take a punch when he was going up against the likes of Ray Mercer and Holyfield---its misleading as he lost to McCall and Rahman by kayo, i think it was more of a psychological thing in my mind---and I think had he came in confident, but with respect of his opponent, Lewis could have a big chance at winning over George.

But it's a 'pick em' kinda fight, because it would really only take a good solid shot from george to put someone to sleep---but I'd take Lewis for a win. The 'prime' george would have been kayoed and the old george would have lost a decision to Lewis.

I can see this fight go both ways. Lewis keeping Foreman off with his jab and winning it in the late rounds; or Foreman cornering Lewis, testing his chin and taking him out eventually.

Lewis was one of the strongest fighters ever.

A lot of his opponents have commented on his huge strength.

I voted for a Foreman KO...however most of us know that George himself thinks he could not have beaten Lewis. He has said this on several occasions. Not sure if he was talking in real time or prime vs prime but I think he covered both sides of the issue.

Lewis by decision.
Skill wise Lewis is streets ahead of Foreman, but i believe he would have fought a cautious fight, if Foreman lands one of his bombs the fights over: so we'd see the defensive Lewis in this one.

spot on. Lewis really got the skills out (and the jab) when he was properlymotivated and worried about losing.

Lewis by MD in my vote

The peak Foreman would be a difficult proposition for Lewis; Lewis has a chance of outboxing young George and winning on points, but I suspect that Foreman's power would win the day, so I pick young George to win by KO.
Old George would not be mobile enough to beat Lewis; he'd still have a punchers chance but my pick would be Lewis to win on points
