No IBF I/C title in Khan's record?

Post by jomothepure »

Huge publicity about this being 'on the line' on Saturday. It was, I'm 95% sure, in the databse on Sat night / Sunday, but now is not on Khan's record.

I know Khan has relinquished the title, but I would have thought it should still be in the records. Unless...something very naughty has happened, like it was never officially 'on the line.'

I don't want to be a pain about this, but surely it is fact that he did win the title in his last fight?

And if the title isn't entered because he somehow never fought for it, then I would similarly like to know so I can scorn the promotor for false advertisement.

Thanks

Amir Khan v Rachid Drilzane was definitely for the IBF Intercontinental title. He was wearing the belt in the post fight interview.

It's false advertisement then. Sons of...

I bet that's why Khan was so quick to relinquish it - because he never had it in the first place. Easier to sweep the fact he never had it under the carpet straight after the fight than later on.

Can we sue SN everytime they use a photo of Khan with the belt then?

I just read on the 'ITV Sport' website that Amir Khan relinquished the belt immediately after winning it, but he did win it!
Here is the link:

Also, found a picture of Khan wearing the belt on the 'BBC' website.

For the sake of accuracy, perhaps his record should indicate that he won the title and then relinquished it?

Yes, but he didn't win it according to the IBF

Fair enough John, but I fail to see why Khan was presented with the IBF belt and announced in the ring as champion if they did not sanction the fight. Surely there must have been an IBF supervisor present to hand over the belt at the end of the contest - crazy!

All I know is that we reported it as an IBF title fight and they contacted us and said it was never approved as Khan had only had 9 fights. I have no idea who's belt it was in the pictures.

UNBELIEVABLE.

The Amir Khan story actually gets worse. Should this not be a huge scandal for false advertising?

Should the IBF not be suing The Undisputed King of Lawsuits allegedly?

The media have such a hard on for Khan they would probably sweep it under the rug anyhow.

Yes,Yes,and probably. I wonder if anything could be done about it. It may seem trivial, but the way it looks, then it's the same principle as Nobby Nobbs buying a replica WBC belt, holding a press conference, and telling the media that Pete Buckley will soon be welterweight champion of the world.
