Joe Calzaghe vs Carl Froch

Post by m1kee50 »

I did a search for the topic, i couldnt find one, so I thought I should start one. Does anyone know of any intention to make this fight? Obv Joe is operating at world level (i use the term loosely), and Froch is a dangerous fighter. So even while being a calzaghe fan, i have to say it probably wont happen.

What do you guys think? and who would win?

I honestly think that Froch could be the first man to beat Calzaghe. Calzaghe isnt getting any younger and looked to be on the downslide to me against Bika. Bika was tough but Joe would have run rings round him at his peak. Calzaghe would need to perform better than this to beat Froch. Froch is young and up and coming and probably hungrier at this stage.

I think when Calzaghe has some fire in him, and some ambition (not misgided ambition, i.e. try & impress HBO by wading into Bika like a rank amateur), he can be very impressive. Froch hasn't reached that class yet and he doesn't seem to like an opponent with a workrate.

I don't see this being competitive, Calzaghe would have a field day with Froch's non existent defence. Froch is yet to prove he is a world class fighter IMO.

I picked Joe by UD.
Would love to see Froch beat him though.

Does anyone genuinely beleive this fight could ever happen?
Or would the fact Warren would want a ten fight option on the cobra prevent it

Froch is getting closer and closer to Kessler, so he doesnt really need Calzaghe at the moment.

I'd really fancy his chances against Kessler too.

I know it's unconventional, but I reckon Froch wins this by late KO, whilst behind on the cards.

Its a fight I'd love to see

This will be one fight Froch's punch won't save him. Even fighting guys leagues below Calzaghe he has to take punishment to throw those KO shots he throws like with Magee.

I really can't see how Froch could hang with Kessler. Kessler would land the jab on him at will. Froch just doesn't have the defence to match these guys I am afraid and doesn't have the reflexes to fight with his hands down. If guys like Dale Westerman and Brian Magee are landing countless shots on him think what the likes of Calzaghe and Kessler would do.

Froch is nowhere near Calzaghe or Kessler's level, who should be fighting EACH OTHER. Right now he's a similar level to Inkin.

Froch isn't ready just yet for Kessler and Calzaghe IMO but he's closing in.

He's cleaned up in Britain, next stop should be 2 or 3 Europeans or rated opponents then he's as ready as he will ever be.

Mikkel and Joe hold the aces now, but in 12 months time Froch will ready to give them a real challenge. Carl's better than several of Calzaghe's world title challengers already and even if is technical flaws let him down, he'll still be ready to gut it out and that makes him a definite danger.

I can name two Britains that would say different froch hasnt cleaned up anything yet (i know this is a touchy subject but he is eleigible to fight) john duddy and Joe calsaghe.

Duddy is a middleweight, and fights in the US.

Duddy isn't British and isn't he a middleweight ?

Yes, Joe is the number 1 but he's left the British scene behind years ago and Froch, for my money, has filled that gap and is ready to move on to bigger things.

Calzaghe would be too up for this fight to lose if it were made because he knows Froch is dangerous. Plus there is some bad blood. Calzaghe would probably win a clear decision.

I see Froch causing Calzaghe problems. Froch does have a questionable defence, but his chin and power are pretty good, which means that when Calzaghe-- as he almost certainly would-- forgets his boxing and stands toe to toe with Froch, Froch could do exactly what Byron Mitchell did.
Calzaghe could box Froch to bits, but when he mixes it in close and defence and boxing go out the window it becomes a very interesting fight.

This must be the clearest indication yet that Calzaghe has reduced the public opinion of himself to an all time low. I can't imagine a thread like this being created in the wake of the Lacy performance.

Froch is way below Calzaghe at this moment in time, and it's my opinion that he'll never reach Calzaghe's level. Sure there are shocks in this sport, and Froch would always have a chance, but Calzaghe is better in every single department. Not just a bit better either, but far better. Froch's non-existent defence and poor head movement would be an absolute disaster against someone who has fast hands and not negligible punching power.

It's not Calzaghe, It's Froch being overated because he can punch and people falling into the punchers trap.

i dont overrate him, but who would you rather watch? clazaghe Bika, or Calzaghe Froch? that says it all for me.

Froch has got fast hands and good power. yeah hes unpolished, but he will only improve

Is Froch more proven than Bika though?

I liked the Bika one and I wouldn't complain If Joe fought Froch just to teach him a boxing lesson.
