Enzo / Hatton / Witter not world champs.

Post by boxbet »

How can Enzo / Hatton / Witter call themselves World champs when they havent even proved themselves to be the best in the uk? Its all bollocks when you think of it like this.

Heresy!

Welcome to the world of modern boxing (by modern I mean 1980 and onwards)...

You either get used to it and have a grumble every now and then or find another sport to follow!

well.....at the moment, if a 'world' belt means you are world champ. then hatton is as much a world champ as peter buckley.

both of them hold no titles...but when you look at their resume..

hatton has been in with - tszyu, collazo, maussa, tackie, phillips

buckley has been in with - bredahl, mckenzie, hamed, ingle, mcmillan, harrison, freitas..... :TU:

ok, so hatton beat all of his opponents, but at the end of the day, both men hold no titles......

Hatton has beat world class fighters and the very best fighter in his division. There is no doubt at all that he WAS world champion(technically he ain't no more)

Witter waited a long time for his world title shot, and beat a fringe world class(at the time)fighter for it.But,he done things the right way, bided his time, earned his shot, and I beleive he deserves to be called a world champion.

Enzo has beaten nobody that suggest he is worthy of his 'world title'.Fwank bought it for him.
I agree he should'nt be labelled as anything like a genuine world champion.

Domestic boxing(and boxing in general)is bollox.Everyone is so scared of a defeat, they hardly take any risks.
We should have had Hatton/Witter 4-5 years ago.And Fwank should'nt have made it impossible for the Enzo/Haye fight to go ahead.
It stinks.

Hatto is still considered the genuine champion at 140 and rightly so.

Definitely - I think he's still Ring and Cyber Boxing Zone champion. It will feel weird when Hatton is announced as the challenger.

I can see where you are all coming from, but I do think you have to call the champions of the WBO, WBA, IBF, WBC as world champions (no more). I know the saying a goes, a fighter makes a belt and not a belt makes a fighter - but then you can discard any short term upset champion as a non-champion.

Modern day the likes of Carlos Baldomir would fit into the category. Even James Braddock from the 30's wasn't considered world class when he faced - Baer. Was he a world champion?

For me, if you class Riddick Bowe in the mid 90's as a world champion (when he was WBO king) when he was generally regarded as the number #1 Heavyweight - then it should move to all WBO champions. Including Enzo Maccarinelli and even Paul Silky Jones.

The Ring championship is good in theory, but seems equally corruptable. Vitali Klitchsko was ring champion for beating a semi pro Golfer and giving Lewis a tough fight. Doesn't matter that Chris Byrd (who beat him) was a world champion in his own right.

Same with the Super Middleweights. Joe holds the WBO/IBF championship gets awarded the belt straight away. Ottke wins and defends the IBF/WBA titles (more prestigious) and wins them fairly and he doesn't get any recognition.

Its all about promotion of their magazine.

I would not call Witter and Enzo "Genuine" World Champions in todays terms. But how can you not count Ricky Hatton being a "Genuine" World Champion. He only left 140 pounds for "1" fights and is back at his weight were be beat Kostya Tszyu to become the world number one who, in the eyes of the Boxing World was rightly number one. Belt or no Belt, Hatton as long as he's active at 140 lbs will remain the man to beat at that weight, so if he's the man to beat, he's World Champion.

I think a win against Kostya Tszyu is above fighting the best around the UK. Its Witter who has to prove himself against Hatton, likewise for the rest of the holders that they deserve the name of "World Champion". Urango is getting his chance first.

Enzo seems not happy the way he obtained the belt, afterall he was training for Johnny Nelson who was the WBO holder. Enzo's not stupid, he knows the World Number one is Bell and thats why he would want to fight him. You don't hear Bell saying he wants to fight Enzo, he's nothing to prove, Bell's the target for the top spot.
