I understand, Dennis. I know the time and effort and money you coaches put into getting your boxers to various events, particularly local or regional (if you have to travel far), Silver Gloves, PAL and U-19. With US Championships, Golden Gloves and JO Nationals, way is partially paid to the nationals. However, I don't see how a "one-time" tournament fee, or a difference in membership dues between JOs, novice and open would make a difference. Membership monies pay for membership services, of which insurance is the most important. USAB determines their membership income structure to cover all insurance premiums.

I agree with you Mel. I can't imagine that someone who really wants to box can't afford to pay the $35.00 annual membership fee. I don't think there should be a single tournament fee. Boxers should be encouraged to train for some time before entering a tournament to gain the requisite skills, conditioning and ring experience (i.e. sparring). Those things require the boxer to be registered so that they are covered by the secondary health insurance and the gym, coaches and USA Boxing are covered by liability insurance.

There is an article about the demise of amateur boxing because of "Olympic-style" boxing. The article also mentions Michael King and his company, A2P, pulling out of amateur boxing in the U.S. The site for the article is: http://www.maxboxing.com/Bernard/Fernandez122206.asp

You want mismanagement? Check. The accountants charged with putting the organization’s books in order still are wondering where hundreds of thousands of dollars disappeared
That's a new one on me!. If it's true, USAB is keeping it very secretive. Frankly, I don't think it is. USAB at one time owed the USOC a huge hunk but has since paid it off.

I'm sorry, but interviewing pro people about computer scoring and amateur boxing is always going to illicit a negative response. They just don't understand. The IOC mandated computer scoring so we have no choice.

Reply from Interim ED John Stavros to a member's request for information regarding the A2P pullout:

"Due to the nature of the agreement I cannot legally comment on the situation. I will be sending an E.D. report shortly and it will advise the members of the situation......regrets."

Ah, yes. A new era of open communication and no BS. :box:

Does that mean we are in Limbo ? Is there a point in taking registration? Where will the money go? will the kids be insured or will we only find out months after a claim is put in?
We are not in Limbo - we are just minus the monies that were provided by A2P. Registration monies go to insurance and membership services. Everyone is still insured. As long as amateur boxing is an Olympic sport, the USOC will not let the NGB go under.
As long as the USOC doesn't go under - LOL. With their history, who knows. Would some organization or the government step in to save the USOC? Hopefully, we never have to find out the answer.
