Will Urango's Right Hook Spell Hatton's Doom?
Will Urango's Right Hook Spell Hatton's Doom?
Hatton was dropped badly by Magee and nearly stopped by Collazo. In both cases it was the right hook that did it. Urango might not be slick, but he's also a southpaw.
Hatton is aggressive and he is vulnerable to that shot.
Ricky will have to be careful here, methinks. If he's slow throwing his left hooks to the body he might get shaken badly.

I just was watching Hatton-Magee - Ricky was dropped with a perfect compact right hook as he was throwing his own left hook to the body, and was badly shakewn in the 2nd. Add t that Collazo had him all over the place at the end of their fight, and you have to wonder, with Urango being an apparently heavy puncher and a southpaw.
However, the crucial difference is that Urango is not slick. But you never know what can happen.
I do think Urango has probably been underrated a bit. He's the same level as Torres & Arnaouitis, and we all know how close Torres came to beating Cotto.

the key thing is that urango will be unpredictable. and that could be a problem for hatton, maussa was unpredictable and ricky sorted him out without problem, but maussa was not compact, i think urango will be tight in defence but wild on the offence.....
ricky can box smart for points but if he gets drgged into a war he must be careful he does not get caught.

I not only remember Hatton being shaken badly by Magee but he had no clue when he was forced to retreat. He is not a fighter that can fight moving backward. Props to him for regrouping and basically dominate the guy after the fact but he was genuinely in trouble. I favor Hatton to win a hard fought 12 rd dec but I wouldn't be shocked to see Urango pull the upset. Hatton needs to use his BOXING skills in this one. If he chooses to try and bull the stronger Urango, he'll lose this dance.
I had Hatton beating Magee by the skin of his teeth. IMO Magee didn't get quite the credit due, because he was on the ropes so much. Hatton did do some great work - I remember him throwing a combo to the body, spinning out of range and Magee looked baffled - but definitely, he looked vulnerable.Romi wrote:I not only remember Hatton being shaken badly by Magee but he had no clue when he was forced to retreat. I think he'll always be open to a right hook.
I think one reason I started this thread is because as good as Hatton is, he might not make it out of light welter in one piece. I hope I'm wrong - that his career will come unglued Honeyghan/McGuigan style - but the fighters that HBO will want him to fight, Urango, Castillo, Torres, Harris, well, some of these only need one shot.
Hatton's got to cultivate an approach that will adapt properly to each style he's facing. He certainly ripped the title from Tszyu, but doesn't have to fight that way every time. I saw signs of 'championship' style vs Maussa, because Ricky did lovely work with the jab/hook from the middle stages on.
