Fedor is a beast but will eventally lose. His somewhat tubby frame belies what an awesome, well conditioned fighter he is.
His greatest asset is his cool demeanour IMO - he remains calm under pressure and is adept on his feet and on the ground.
I was at the Liddell v Ortiz rematch at the MGM Grand just before New Year and the atmosphere rivalled any boxing show I have ever been to (the possible exception being Hatton v Tsyzu).
It was a apcked out 16000 strong audience and the show was slick with minimal time between bouts, big screens showing replays and a live feed throughout. All in all I was very impressed.
Also, it was great to see Bisping come down to 'Londons Calling' and he got a great reception from the Septic tanks.
For those of you who love MMA I met Dean Liser between prelim bouts and had a good chat with him - nice fellar. I also bumped into Nick Diaz who si one of my favourite 'value for money' fighters.
I am hoping the rumours are true and the UFC is coming back to Britain this year because if they bring the production values and quality that they showed out in Vegas, it will give british boxing a genuine run for its money..

Just hope the quality of match up is maintained. It could end up like a Fight Night card (or worse!)nickd wrote:UFC 70 will be at the MEN arena in May.
It would be a soft show if it was a gimme for Bisping, a comeback fight for Freeman and another undeserved match for Pointon..
I am hoping that Joe Silva, the match maker, doesnt let standards slip just because it will be an almost guaranteed sell out no matter what the line up.
I bet FW is wishing his deal with the MEN covered all combat sports and not just Boxing!
Fedor also has an extensive judo background.knockout wrote:Fedor has a sambo background, he is blessed with great strength and balance he also has very quick hands.... he looks like crap though before the fight starts thoughstates wrote:Cheers for the link Nick. I only mentioned Sylvia because I've seen him on Bravo a few times, and I've heard him announced as the heavyweight champ. I don't watch much/know much about MMA. Fedor is quite clearly a hard bastard though, I'll give him that.
You got any more links? Is he a submission specialist or what? What's his background?
Lots of national competition in his homeland.
Ive trained with some Russian judoka here in Chicago.
They are extemely tough .they are also very stoic .Not real emotional before a match.
At first its a little unnerving when you face it.

haha MMA fans in America seem to think that all UK fighters are from London.TerribleTerry wrote:Also, it was great to see Bisping come down to 'Londons Calling' and he got a great reception from the Septic tanks.
.
I agree that Fedor would dominate Tim, smash him up in a couple of minutes I think.
One thing about Fedor is that he comes into fights with a watertight gameplan - best example being how he chased Mirko 'Cro Cop' (former K-1 fighter) around the ring and beat him standing. Quite amazing.
He's also very heavy handed with his punches on the ground - 'ground 'n' pound'
If you get the chance to watch his fights with Zuluzinho and Gary Goodridge (won't take up too much of your time LOL) you get to see his true destructive brilliance.

yep, that date looks like a go'er.
Any info on the proposed fights would be great - post any rumours or confirmed matches as they come up.
I hope Bisping gets someone tougher than Sisonic. He should do.

The continued demise of Ricco 'Suave' Rodriguez.
I missed this from a few months back, but for those of you who havent seen it, here is Ricco's pro boxing debut.
He has returned to his rolly polly fat boy routes in recent years and looks terrible here (although he has got his weight down from a high of well over 300lbs!...) Its hard to think that he was once UFC Heavyweight champ.
He looks pretty awful - at least 50lbs over weight - hands low, right uppercut from way to far out and his opponent rolls over and plays dead at the first opportunity. Just what the world needs - another fat, under skilled heavy:

I know what you mean - as a boxer he has zero future, I was posting it mainly to show how far he has regressed.achybreaky wrote:TerribleTerry wrote:The continued demise of Ricco 'Suave' Rodriguez.

When he beat up Randy Couture he looked awesome and I loved his use of the cartwheel guard pass, but these days he is a blimp with seemingly little future.

Jeff Monson and Vitor Belfort have both previously used low level pro boxing matches as tools to improve their stand up - Ricco is doing the same I suppose.nickd wrote:Boxing is not a permanent thing, he fought twice in MMA back in November.
Last I heard he's been back training with Ortiz and Team Punishment at Big Bear and whipping himself back into shape.
Lets hope he leaves Big Bear in shape - he has the skills to compete with just about anyone in MMA but this match and the last MMA fight I saw him in against Ron 'H20' Waterman made me wonder if he will ever regain 'the hunger'..
A few years ago the UFC wanted Rico to be their heavyweight version of Tito but he was very arrogant and unlikeable that he never caught on with the crowds.
His bad knockout loss to then unknown Tim Syliva and stinking the building out against Pedro Rizzo didn't help his career.
If you ever seen the documentary about Mark Kerr called the smashing machine, Rico comes across in it as a complete and utter tit.

Yeah I have seen that - he comes off as a party boy/womaniser and its nice when Bas Rutten drops him in sparring.ebeneezer wrote:

His jiu jitsu is excellent for such a big guy though; he weighed over 20 st for that boxing match in October - he needs to be down to around 230- 240 to be an effective fighter again.
There are reports that Ricco is still slowly but surely dropping weight. I've garnered that information from posts on “The Underground” so it has to be taken with a grain of salt. Shit, he could be sitting home eating donuts for all I know.
I remember seeing Ricco when he was around 330 lbs and he looked terrible. In his boxing début he was, according to this site, 287 lbs.
He actually looks much better in that video than when I saw footage of him against Robert Beraun, last January. When he was facing Beraun I cannot express how out of shape he looked.
Also, in Ricco's defence he did lose three fights in a row in 2003 which can't have helped his motivation. I haven't seen the fight but there are people, including Ricco, who think he deserved the decision over Nogueira. I think, Ricco has said that he got very disheartened after losing the Nogueira fight. Then the UFC putting him and Rizzo on as a preliminary bout upset him greatly as he thought that him, being a former champion, and Rizzo, being a former top contender, deserved more respect.
Ricco also, at one point, had a bad knee injury. In fact he was out for 13 months. He fought Rizzo in November 2003 and then didn't fight again till December 2004.

“Minotoro” hopes to reconcile MMA and boxing
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (Pictures) will have a busy year. Listed among the possible fighters for PRIDE 33, the Brazilian Top Team member is already training hard for the Feb. 24 card in Las Vegas, this despite not having an opponent.
“I’m training a lot of wrestling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and striking skills,” Nogueira said. “I will be well prepared for this fight, whomever my opponent is.”
Without knowing if he would box in the Pan-American games in Rio this July, Nogueira hopes that PRIDE’s calendar allows him to compete in both sports.
"We will see,” he said. “As I train a lot of boxing for my MMA matches, if the dates are not the same, I’ll fight. It would be awesome if I could compete in both sports.”
A highly regarded mixed martial artist who is used to the good money paid by PRIDE, “Minotoro” said he is not deterred by fighting for only a medal in the Pan-American games. Just the opposite, in fact.
"When I fought the South American games in boxing last year, I realized how great it is to represent my country,” Nogueira recalled. “When I got my fighting clothes with the Brazilian colors it was very exciting. I enjoyed it. So this is my motivation, to represent Brazil, and bring a medal for my country.”
According to the calendar announced by PRIDE, there will be a card in July in Japan. This could conflict with the Pan-American games, which takes place July 20-28.

Anyone see Randy Couture beating up Tim Sylvia at the weekend? That was a brilliant performance. I wish I hadn't spoilt the result for myself by looking at Fightnews on Sunday morning but I didn't think Couture had a chance.
I loved the way the commentators were stunned into silence for a few seconds as Couture decked Sylvia with the first right hand he threw. Great moment.

I wasnt too surprised... Timmy really doesnt do it for me... all he has is that long right hand.... How AA managed to lose to him is shocking..Kilburn wrote:Anyone see Randy Couture beating up Tim Sylvia at the weekend? That was a brilliant performance. I think Timmy was a little awestruk aswell...
Timmy just isnt athletic enough.
I still thought Sylvia would make all that extra size count somehow, instead he barely had any success in that fight whatsoever.
Watching Couture recovering in between rounds though makes me wish he really would properly pack in in. 43 year old men surely should not be putting themselves through that. But you know he'll already be putting his plan together to beat Cro Cop.
