Just finished Hattons book...

Gatti is still a name, and its still going to be a thrilling fight - even if now Hatton would be a big betting favourite.

How is watching Gatti been battered a thrilling fight, were Gattis fights with Baldomir/Mayweather thrilling? No they weren't really, Gatti is nothing more than a bvrain damaged punch bag now.

Because I'm starting to learn any possible Hatton opponent becomes better on paper than they actually are in the ring. Gatti was done in 2005.

Gatti was done when DLH fought him was nearly done (again) when Mayweather fought him, and was done when Baldo got to him. People still fight him regardless of whether he was shot or not.

If Gatti looks good in one fight, his marketability goes up and there's an excuse for someone to fight him. Fact is, when he fought Damgaard, he look good, and everyone was receptive to putting him in another big fight.

No one would say Gatti is suddenly better if Hatton fought him. You have an agenda - pro Floyd, so everyone else has from 140-147 has to put their protective clothing on waiting for the next bilious attack.

Gatti was Mayweather's pawn to get him on PPV - from then on he became a PPV fighter, and coincidentally the "pound for pound best in boxing."

I personally thought Mayweather was P4P number 1 a fair bit before the Gatti fight.

In response to the response of my original post.

1) Yes, Gatti vs Baldomir was a thrilling fight IMO. One that I couldn't watch in its entirety (live) cause I wanted Gatti to win. However, he was in the fight - it wasn't a batterring and I think Gatti had the tools to beat him - if only he would have boxed from the off.

2) Mayweather vs Gatti wasn't thrilling to watch, but it was a masterclass and the anticipation for the fight was massive. Hatton won't batter Gatti the same way Floyd did - Hatton, like Gatti, is not in Floyd's league.

It would still be a competitive fight. I think the Baldomir fight might have punched some more resistance out of Gatti - but I think he would give as good as he is taking at times. It WOULD be a thriller - Both I think would have the power to hurt each other, both have defensive flaws. I think it would come to the tank, which is why I would favour Hatton by late stoppage.

Maussa I dont think gatti detoriated that much, he just was never that great in the first place. His defense has always been really bad as has his punch selection and getting his shots off. In terms of deteriation - I dont see it that much and well in some ways hes got better

1. I watched Gatti-Baldomir and witnesses gatti lacking aggression (trying to box) and he (from my memory) outboxed Baldo early until Baldo timed his right hand time after time and then stepped it up and took him out. It wasn't a blood and guts war or a great fight.

2. Mayweather-Gatti - a great exhibition but Gatti was nothing more than a punch bag for that exhibition. Because he didnt try it we still dont know how Mayweather reacts to a big man jumping on him

3. Hatton would dominate Gatti, he'd get his punches off first, box in and out, stay out the way of telegraphed shots, and give Gatti a beat down over 7-8 rounds

The bad thing about Gatti continuing to box is his DEFENSE. He hasnt got 1 its like putting a novice in the ring you know they're going to get hurt.

Hatton was promised the money long before Hobson and Waterman split.

Hobson and Waterman have earned nothing from their association with Hatton.

They are not promoting him. Hobson is effectively employed by Hatton as an event manager.

They didnt get Ricky because they are great promoters. They got him because they were the only ones stupid enough to offer him such unrealistic and unattainable sums.

Funny how Hobson acts like a bigshot just because he helps Hatton out now though. Wish he'd get Woods more exposure.

7) I felt bad for Vince Philips when he got ripped off on his purse for their fight. He sounded desperate, even asking Hatton afterwards to help him..

What happened with Vince Phillips?????????????????? ANYONE KNOW???

Philips came over to Manchester to fight Hatton. Apparently he had accepted a deal already (and a low price) but knew nothing about it being televised in the States. When he got there, Showtime trucks were lined up outside with all their equipment and Philips went crazy that he was getting a bad deal. At one stage he apparently said he wouldn't fight and was ready to leave, but had a change of heart in the end and went out to give Hatton a good fight, despite the wide decision on the judges card. Philips went into Hattons dressing room afterwards telling him what had happened and I think he told him what he was getting paid and asked if Hatton could somehow help (whether this was suggested by giving him some of his purse I don't know) but Hatton had nothing to do with it. He did however say that if the crowd who turned up knew how much he was getting paid, they would have thrown their coins down in appreciation (nobbins).

Philips had a lot of problems out of the ring over the years so I always think its sad to see guys like that end up penniless or getting shafted.

It may sound harsh but the only person Vince has to blame is himself, he should have researched how much money was on the table, he was the 1 who accepted the offer. If Hatton was an unknown the same situation still would have happened yet Vince wouldnt have felt cheated by his share.

He probably should have done as Mayorga did against DLH and said he wasn't fighting unless he was given more money.

How much did Vince make anyway? It is sad when boxers end up with nothing from their careers, but if they're smart they will manage themselves better. Smoking Crack and blowing all your money isn't the best way to manage yourself. Whatever path you take in life you need to keep smart, boxings no different.

That is something which I have always found surprising.

Yeah I always thought Tszyu would fight a rematch at some stage. Better paydays were available I guess, lets be honest Tszyu would have battered him if it had happened.

As a fighter you always have a fear of the guy who gave you a beating. Even if your capable of beating someone the fear is a natural reaction. Morales may have been capable of beating Pacman but he was scared in the third fight no doubt about it. Just the same Tyszu is scared of Hatton and Phillips, hes probably less scared of Trinidad/DLH/Mosley than those 2 because he has memorys of been beaten up by them. I know I'd mentally I'd be less scared to fight fighters that are superior to guys Ive taken a beating from even as a teenager.

Suprised DLH didnt jump on cool Vince but obviously Pernell was a massive name
