Proposed Hatton v Castillo fight

Post by nickd »

Just watching Skysports News apparently if both win Hatton v Castillo will happen on June 2nd. They did however mention Castillo's weight and whether he would make 140 tomorrow.

Why the 5 month wait?

Does Castillo need to make 140 tomorrow? Does he even need to make 140 for a fight between him and Ricky?

It's some sort of WBC eliminator he's in, so yes he has to make 140. Weighed in at around 146 a week ago I read...

Question is, can Castillo seriously make 140 now, without near killing himself?

He was 139.5 when he nearly keeled over and gave up trying to make 135 for the 3rd Corrales fight. So it's going to be tough again.

doesn't he have those trainers that helped Morales last time? What were they called again? Impact, Velocity, Accelarate, something like that?

The five month wait is because after training to peak on the night, the body needs to recover before it can be brought to a peak again

No its 5 months because Hatton needs a couple of months of boozing and eating pies before getting back into a 3 month camp. Hatton could easily fight every 3-4 months if he kept himself in reasonable shape. Not just a slight on Hatton, the top fighters all take too long between fights these days.

also possibly the TV people? they have other top fighters they want to show, and you want to spread your big sellers out, they wont have two big fights on one night.

6lbs isnt much for Castillo to lose unless he drained himself to make 146.

Even if he can't make 140 though - so what he doesn't want to fight for Witters WBC and he and Hatton could fight at a catch weight.

What happened to the days of guys like Toney fighting 14times in 2years (as a champ)

Champions used to fight 5 times a year now its down to twice if were lucky.

Imagine if Hatton fought Castillo, Cotto, Corrales, Mayweather and Witter in 12months, even I'd have to stop talking shit about him then

It's making the weight. Hatton takes ages to drop down to 140, I'd assume Castillo is similar. Mayweather could probably fight 4 times a year, but doesn't.
I remember Eubank fighter once every other month when he went from ITV to SKY, cost him in the end though.

The point is that Hatton, if he fought 4/5 times a year, wouldn't need to worry about dropping the weight. The only reason he puts on weight is because he doesn't need to train. He's a big lightwelterweight, yes. But he's not like Cotto, someone killing himself to make a totally unrealistic 'natural' weight.

140 is slightly unrealistic for Hatton he'll need to weight drain a little to do it. He used to do 5times a year though so he can clearly do it if he wants

I'm not sure about this one. Apparently Ngoudjo was nearly stopped by Augustus.

I saw Castillo's last fight, a listless decision over Rolando Reyes. Reyes looked very capable, but also very negative and was simply outworked.

In that fight, Castillo was 138.

Here, all goes well he's 140, which is the highest he's been since 2004 (non title KO of Derrick Parks, 145).

Castillo may have already hit the barrier & that's it. But even depleted and drained he has some real skill & economy.

If Ngoudjo is long, cautious type of fighter, ppl may not want to see Hatton-Castillo. But I can't count out a sneaky left hook putting the man away.

I think there is still life in him. Maybe it will take a fighter of Hatton's energy levels to melt him away. Maybe 140 is good for him.

Castillo weighed in at 139 (as did Hatton) and he looked relatively well.

Interestingly Castillo took a test weigh in about 40 mins before the real one so there must have been some concerns unless that was a stipulation from the promoter.

Being at the weigh-in was bizarre like being transported to Manchester for a couple of hours.

Yeah, thats what sticks in my mind when I think about this fight. Getting dropped and nearly stopped by a relative light-hitter like Augustus, doesn't bode well when fighting a puncher like Castillo in your first major test.

I am pretty sure they were trying to avoid any embarassment with the actual weigh-in.
