Just for fun: Rocky versus Reality

Post by knockout »

with the imminent release of the new Rocky film I was thinking what Stallone had "borrowed" from boxing history...

Not having seen the new film yet you have to assume a guy coming back to fight in his fifties has to be inspired by Big George Foreman story.

Rocky V, Duke Washington is clearly Don King also Rocky uses a lot of Cus D'amato quotes in the movie... fear is like a flame etc.....

Rocky IV, not too sure about this one....

Rocky 3..... Again I think Clubber Lang portrays a Foreman type character (younger version) and Ali rope-a-dopes him in the rematch....

Rocky 2 can barely remember it but it is a continuation of the Ali v Wepner scenario from the first one......

Anyone else got any thoughts on the Rocky series and which bits have been based on real events?!?!

Rocky IV was about the Klitschkos but the Klitschkos were only 10 at the time so I guess it was a premonition.

I saw the Ivan Drago character as a characture of Teffilio Stevenson and his exhibtion with the aging Creed was supposed to represent the proposed Ali vs Stevenson exhibtion.

Obviously, lot of fantasy also.

I thought the was also alot of Ali vs Marciano fantasy (computer) match up as part of the storyline for the first two films, especially the second one.

Lot of references too Rocky Marciano in the one, two and five.

Rocky 4 was basically a rather poor metaphor for the cold war (flawed as it was by the need to portray Rocky as the 'David vs Goliath' underdog) except with some actual fighting in it.
Oddly Stallone remade Rocky 4 in 1988, imaginitively calling it Rambo 3 and swapping Ivan Drago for a helicopter gunship.

Well Rocky vs Creed in the first film is Wepner vs Ali. Rocky vs Thunderlips is Wepner vs Andre the Giant (almost identical).

Actually isn't Rocky 1 to 3 - Gatti vs Ward twenty years early.

Gatti loses a controvesial decision to Ward. Rocky vs Creed 1.

Gatti changes plan and beats Ward in a rematch. Rocky vs Creed 2.

After retiring Ward and Gatti become good friends and Ward assists in training. Rocky III.

Not sure about that. Creed was meant to be a fast, slick, stylish boxer... Micky Ward?

Evander, the title says just for fun, lighten up!

Does anyone else watch the fight scenes and think 'That should have been called a knockdown', or when Rocky is taken a real pasting 'The fight would have been stopped in real life'? Or is that just me?

I'll get me coat.
