You selected the #1 ranked boxer for each weight class from 125 through 201. They are all good boxers, but I would be willing to bet that at least one or two won't win. I think there is definitely going to be some excellent bouts at the box-offs. I wish they would get televised or at least recorded so that I could see them since I won't be going to Colorado to watch in person. USAB could do a DVD like they did of the Men's US Championships. I would order it.

Do you know that Stallings lost to Willett pretty decisively in the National PAL tourney in October? What do you think has changed? Stallings was also KO'd in the 2006 National Golden Gloves by Paul Koon.thevanillagorilla wrote:I'm picking Ray Stallings to win at heavyweight. He can beat Willet in the first match and then outpoint Zimmerman or Carey.

Yes Dennis, I'm aware of that. But, the 2006 GG was actually Stallings' first few fights in several years, so I'll give ring rust the benefit of the doubt. As for the PAL, I talked to Ray after this fight and he told me that he was in panic mode after being down 3-1 after the first round. He hadn't been down in the other fights. He was confident when he told me that if they meet again he knows exactly how to beat Adam, and I could see it in his eyes he wasn't just talking. So, I'll go against the grain here and pick Stallings as my dark horse.
In the 201 division, I'm not sure there is a darkhorse. Adam Willett has won most of the tournaments he has entered, but he has had quite a few close bouts over the last year. I hope that USAB does sell DVD's of the box-offs so I can see how the bout turns out. I have contacted USAB and the response was they didn't know if they would have the staff to do the work to videotape the bouts and then sell DVD's. If more coaches express an interest, maybe they will do it.
It would be nice to have a DVD, but USAB is very understaffed and it might not bring in enough revenue to make it worth while. I'll be getting an eye-witness report next weekend and will post anything of interest.
My guesses:
106: Gabino Sanez (has beat Ceron twice) or Yanez
112: Pick'em
119: Pick'em
125: Del Valle
132: Crawford or Magdaleno
141: Dargan
152: Thurman or Andrade
165: Pick'em (Estrada usually beats himself)
178: Riley
201: Pick'em
201+: Wilson
And I've been wrong before!

201+ MIKE WILSON
IN THE 201+ DIVISION MIKE WILSON WILL DEFINATELY WIN. HAVE YOU GUYS EVEN LOOKED AT THEIR RECORDS. MIKE HAS FOUGHT OVER 115 FIGHTS WITH ONLY 20 LOSSES. ALSO A 3 TIME NATIONAL CHAMPION, 2005 NATIONAL PAL CHAMPION AS WELL AS OTHERS.
True, but boxing is boxing, anything can happen. Mike isn't exactly techinaclly sound and tends to let punches through, at least against his European counterparts. He is the favortie, but let's see how this turns out,I am actually hoping for Hunter to win, maybe I'll fight him if I move up in weight some day to 201+.
I agree with Roberts on this one, plus Wilson hasn't been as active lately as some of the other boxers. Roberts is 201+ in your near future or are you talking about once you are over 21 years old?Roberts J wrote:True, but boxing is boxing, anything can happen. Well - one down. Danny Garcia, who was in Colorado Springs, did not come to weigh ins this morning. Diego Magdaleno wins on a walk over. For a #1 to do this is not acceptable. He and his coach should have to be held responsible for this, especially if he was over weight. He should lose his #1 ranking for sure.
Just to let everyone know, USAB is listening. They did record the Box-offs and will be selling copies of the bouts for $40. I hope that many of the coaches out there order a copy so they will continue to tape bouts at tournaments and offer copies of them. They will have information posted on the USA Boxing website about how to order them in the very near future.
Hey Dennis, doesnt USA Boxing have a collection videos at the OTC? My brother was telling me he was going to make copies of a few dvds they had there. Some dating back to the late 80's.Dennis wrote:Just to let everyone know, USAB is listening. They did record the Box-offs and will be selling copies of the bouts for $40. The last couple of tournaments my brother has been to he's recieved DVD's from Colorado.
Don't know if this has been discussed in another thread. Just thought I'd mention it.
I would love to get copies of them. I'm not sure how difficult it would be for USAB to put up a list and then have copies made and sell them. I'm sure there would be many people willing to buy DVD's. If any of you out there would, please say so in a post.ARamos3 wrote:Hey Dennis, doesnt USA Boxing have a collection videos at the OTC? Maybe USAB members who are interested enough in the tapes could volunteer their services to copy. Any questions or suggestions about the tapes and distribution of can be addressed to Julie Goldsticker ([email protected]).
