matthew hatton was excellent tonight
matthew hatton was excellent tonight
ian darke stole my thunder by saying hatton was punch perfect.
matthew hatton i think showed a very mature performance tonight against a journeyman who definetley came to win judgeing by the amout of punches he threw. hatton though was very calm under pressure using good movement and using his arms to block most of houghtaling efforts , hattons jab was very sharp and his combination puching was very impressive. houghtaling corner stopped the fight after the seventh round as hatton was totally dominant , his right hand that floored houghtaling in the 4th picked to precision.
i think that the hbo audience would have been very impressed and i think matthew hatton could earn himself another fight on the tv station if his brother and castillo win tonight , thats the least he deserves.
well done matthew

Yes I was very impressed with the other hatton tonite as well. Okay he is never going to be as good as ricky but for a long time he was considered well below top domestic class and im sure a year ago he wouldhave made hard work of even houghtanling or woteva his name was. Instead he put on a boxing clinic and his face didnt have a mark on it. I think he's found a style that suits him as Jim Watt mentioned because earlier in his career he seemed to be trying to imitate ricky's style but this smooth boxing,work-the-jab style suits him. I like to see him in with maybe a colin mcneil level opponent before trying to tackle the likes of jennings, numembe and anderson.

Oh shut up. Put it in context - he's not gunning for Ricky's old WBA welter crown is he? Matthew is being groomed for maybe british and Commonweath titles. He has made strides in improving his style and temperament and can go on to have some good cash. At worst, he can have quality fights with leading UK welters Kevin Anderson, Young Muttley, maybe even one of the quality light welters like Daws or Morrison. At best, he can win British and Commonwealth titles, which is great for him.Mattyp151 wrote:Houghtaling sucks, get over it. He needs to prove himself against far better competition.

Great performance by Matthew!!!!!!
why was he fighting in los angeles.......the main bill was in vegas !!jomothepure wrote:Also a shout to John Ibbotson, who made it on to the card as well. Must have been a great experience for him, fighting in LA at such an early stage in his career. He also tucked his opponent, 3-0 Shannon Anderson, away inside a couple of rounds. Good stuff.
Either way, Houghtaling still stinks, and brings nothing to the table at all.viciousmaussa wrote:Oh shut up. Put it in context - he's not gunning for Ricky's old WBA welter crown is he? Whatever Matthew is being groomed for, Houghtaling does absolutely nothing for him in a glorified sparring match.
