WITTER-HATTON DEBATE CONTUNUES

Post by Autobarn »

After seeing Witter get his timing and lower the boom on a supposedly tough Mexican, and seeing Hatton labour on the same bill, is anyone even more curious how they would fare?

I was impressed by Witter's discipline and fitness. He was in fantastic nick. Though his style is weird, it is certainly effective and I can see him clowning Hatton.

It was always felt that Hatton's workrate would be Witter's bane, but Hatton's fitness is questionable and he has hell with southpaws - slick, straight ahead or whatever.

Who would want to see Hatton-Castillo after last night? Maybe Ricky gets in better shape, maybe Castillo - who was rusty - fights way better for world titles. But that matchup is tarnished, IMO.

I keep hearing Hatton-Witter "doesn't make sense." But the landscape is changing. Last night was a cold bath.

DO WE WANT TO SEE A WITTER-HATTON UNIFCATION?
DOES IT "MAKE SENSE"?

Of course. Witter will probably shout as loud as ever after last night. Hatton, if he is "ducking" Witter, may want to shut it up more than ever.

Next though (for Witter) may be Coralles, and they also mention his mandaory (which in this case they talk about the Harris-Lazcano winner, even though JLC is #1 and his fight last night was also billed as a WBC eliminator. Are they just assuming JLC will fight Hatton and therefore he will be taken out of the rankings, or what?

It will be interesting if Witter goes to America to make his name. Hopefully he keeps winning and ppl demand "UNIFICATION."

He can beat Harris or Lazcano IMO. Corrales, I don't know what's happening there. Witter-Corrales would be awkward for both men - & Junior could give him Casamayor style nightmares.

But it would be hell from apromotional standpoint. Hennessey has links with GBP. GBP don't have Corrales, after their misunderstanding with Shaw. GBP signed Corrales not knowing that Chico still owes Shaw a fight.

Witter ONLY EVER HAD TO WORRY ABOUT HATTONS WORKRATE.

Hatton does not have thay any more, WITTER beats the shit out of Hatton and Hatton knows it.

Witter has some great footwork when he uses it - pivots, sidesteps, subtle little moves that'd get him out of Hatton's range. I think Witter hurts him badly with that weird right hand.

We should be proud to have Witter. He deserves all his success and has proven that the Ingle style works at world class if you stick to boxing.

His body of work is looking good for an avoided fighter. I know it's not a HOF roster, but there's nothing wrong with wins over Morua, Ndou, Corley, and Kotelnik.

I hope he gets the fights that he wants.

Here's my view. It's the British fans that have to PPV to see Hatton. We want to know who the best in England is and we should damn well demand it.

Fight Academy and Ricky don't mind taking our money. Ricky hasn't looked a p4p'er since Maussa (RH was very good from rd 5 onward) and he hasn't been delivering IMO.

Last night wouldn't have been worth £15 were it not for the Alexandra Palace show included. Imagine staying up just for Castillo-Ngoufjo and Hatton?

Witter's slow lethargic work pace would suit Hatton. Whilst Witter takes a break to pose, Hatton would have a small breather.

People are being way too critical of Hatton's performance last night, he boxed brilliantly in the first 8 rounds, his hand speed was there, combinations and his footwork was upto scratch. Even in the rounds where Hatton was holding (bloody corner advice) Urangoo wasn't doing enough to take advantage, the guy barely punched inside. Juan was supposed to be a big strong LW, but couldn't impose his strength.

Hatton won 9-3

Fact is, Witter wasnt fighting what I would call a live opponnent - Morua is your typical first defence. He was never going to be a serious threat, so it is best to not get to carried away with that performance, which wasn't that great to be honest.

For what it is worth, I think both fighters are on the slide, but I do believe the fight might happen late this year.

More importantly they both need to keep winning - I fancy Hatton to beat Castillo - Castillo looks shopworn

I'm still not buying into Witter on the world stage, it is one thing beating an Ndou, Moura or an 'awol' chop chop. It is another thing altogether beating a Corrales, Lazcano or Harris - I actualy think Corrales would be the easiest fight out of the three. Either way, if he beats a big name like one of those three, it paves the way for a Hatton match late this year.

Should be interesting seeing what his next fight is.

It only happens if Hatton loses to Castillo, and then only IF Witter entertains him.

Most Ingle fighters have a pace like that - they focus on frustrating and surprising foes with darting punches and agile footwork. Witter's an alert, clever fighter that I've always suspected would give Hatton hell. Every time Hatton fights a southpaw something goes dreadfully wrong and his conditioning is really qustionable now.

I know the body shots were hard, but Ricky didn't recover and got tagged with right hooks. Not much battery there last night, shocking for Hatton. Still, props to him for frustrating Urango and winning most of the rounds, he won the title, but how many think Hatton-Castillo is a superfight?

I'd rather see Hatton-Witter unifying.

Castillo is the bigger fight for Hatton both money and career-wise, therefore it's only realistic to demand the Witter fight after JLC either happens or falls through.

Apparently Witter had trouble getting decent sparring because of Xmas - no-one was available so it was left to body-sparring.
Do you think sparring can make all the difference? I remember Nigel Benn did very little in training, and it seemed to do him no harm.

But like I say, it's us Brits that are helping fill some serious Hatton coffers with £15 PPVs every time he fights. If we want to see him fight Witter, why not make our demands known?

As much as I like Castillo, and as pleased as I am for his opportunity, this fight isn't in much of a demand.

Sure, Hatton could have paced himself better last night. However, how many LW's fight to that tempo during the first 8 rounds? You'd expect him to tire.

Witter's conditioning has the bigger question mark, he's been struggling during the last few rounds for awhile now yet he only throws half the amount of punches that Hatton does.

I'd take Hatton/Castillo over Hatton/Witter everytime.

With Witter's style I'd say it makes a huge difference. He relies on being able to leap in with fast shots. What was it, 8 rounds of sparring or did he say 80?

I see your point and I have to admit that I'm not totally sure how the PPV business model works, but surely a large proportion of the money hatton is getting now comes from HBO? I would assume they'd much rather have Hatton/Castillo than Hatton/Witter.

Lets face it Hatton-Castillo is set to go despite some shine been taken it off it last night. If Witter gets 1 or 2 more wins maybe he can fight the winner/loser.

I hope Hatton-Witter does indeed happen. It will be a big shame if it doesn't. There is obvious "needle" between the two. Witter has come out and stated he would fight Hatton in a "winner takes all bout". That's a pretty big statement to make. Whether it's a bluff or not is another matter.

However, I have the feeling that if the bout does not happen, it will be more to do with Ricky than it will Junior. Not saying Hatton is ducking Witter, but the best way to sort out/resolve the issue is to box each other. May the best man win!

I had Ricky winning 115-113 last night. I felt the scoring judges' scoring was off, but that's the way they saw & that's the way it went. IMO, Ricky was hurt more by Urango, than Urango was by Hatton.

How do you all feel about prososed super-bouts with the likes of Castillo, Cotto, Mayweather now?

Exactly what I thought, fought at a fast pace against a stronger opponent and threw a lot of leather. He was bound to tire. Fact is, he won a lopsided decision, can't ask for more than that (a stoppage was out of the question, Urango was built like a brick shithouse! :D ). To be fair, don't think many people expected Urango to win this one.

Witter looked good last night, buts lets face it, Morua was made to order. Not saying he didn't look good, but lets not go overboard.

Castillo looked like shit, but i'd still like to see him and Hatton next, then a unification with Witter at the end of the year.

For some reason a Hatton V Witter fight makes me think of a British version of Chavez V Taylor.

Witter gets a lot of stick because he had a few mid rds problems with N'dou, because the 'only' beat Corley for the title, etc etc. But this guy doesn't exactly get to choose his foes very much. He was Mayweather's mandatory, he saw Branco pull out of an EBU fight (and WBC elim?), had tos ettle for Lynes...Witter doesn't get the chances that hatton gets.

Hope it all comes together now.

It would be nice to see Witter actually score a win of some substance before he goes shouting about Hatton ducking or avoiding him. Morua was a 100% gimme.

he wants opponents of substance but the only two (big world class names) that were offered were late notice fights with Judah and Cotto, sadly. But by keeping this title, they will come eventually. Roll on Harris.
