SKY SPORTS - LIVE BOXING FROM US

Post by Boxing Addict »

Does anyone know if SKY are showing any live boxing from the US this year.

So far all delayed broadcasts. A few standout fights that i'll be requesting

Joel Casamayor Vs Juan Diaz - World lightweight unification - cracking fight - 3rd March

Marco Antonio Barrera Vs Juan Manuel Marquez - WBC Super featherweight Title - (Classic barn burner) - 17th March
and great undercard fight...... Israel Vazquez Vs Rafael Marquez - ( pound for pound the 2 hardest hitters fighting each other )

Oscar De La Hoya Vs Floyd Mayweather - WBC Welterweight title - 5th May

Miguel Cotto Vs Antonio Margarito - WBO Welterweight title - 9th June

If Mayweather vs DLH isn't on UK TV I will be amazed.

I also think Barrera vs Marquez will be shown live.

The others, not so sure about.

I'd imagine there's a good chance of us seeing Cotto-Margarito. Barring Quintana, we've seen nearly every one of Cotto's fights within the last 3 years.

The Barrera fight is a certainty to be shown, and I'd think/hope that Sky will also be airing the Mayweather/De La Hoya and Cotto/Margarito matches too.

Not so sure about Casamayor Vs Diaz though. I can't remember, off the top of my head, Sky ever showing Diaz before. I don't think that he's a big enough name for them on his own.

Do you reckon SKY will chance their arm and make DLH-Mayweather a PPV or is it a risk that would not come off?

They did it for De La Hoya/Hopkins do you rekon the PBF fight would be viewed as being as big an attraction?

Not so sure it's hard to gauge with Mayweather who although a stylist is unlikely to appeal to the common fan like Tyson would have. DLH-Hopkins was a PPV? I was at that fight in fact so forgot it was made PPV, makes sense then that they will PPV DLH-Mayweather although i reckon they will have to do a lot of hyping...adverts, commercials, build up shows etc to appeal to the casual viewer.

So on the undercard of a fight between two of the bigger names then. I wouldn't have thought that that will be enough for Sky to show him live when he tops the bill, and I get the feeling we're not going to get it delayed either.

They do take the piss.

£15 for Saturdays fights, that sort of stuff was free years ago. Sorry not free, covered by our £40 per month subscription charges.

Casa's not fighting Juan Diaz, he is fighting Freitas, more than likely. Juan Diaz has a mandatory Prawet Singwangcha, whom he must face. When Prawet needed to postpone, King threw around the names Casamayor and Diaz, but now the only names being linked are Casa and Freitas. Because Prawet isn't stepping aside, he merely had to delay, apparently.
