Demetrius Andrade
Demetrius Andrade
is he for real i seen this kid i dont know about his future in boxing but i can tell you is future in the street
He is a good boxer, but I believe better suited for 152 than 165. He moved up to 165 and lost to Shawn Porter at the Under-19 tournament in Kansas City. At 152, he did seem to dominate. The 165 pounders (well at least Porter) seem to be a little to strong and hit a little too hard for him.
Just my opinion, but I was in the opposite corner from him during the above described bout. I watched the 152 class and really thought that was where he belonged.

I have watched this kid closely
Demetrius Andrade aka BOO BOO
Very good boxer tall and fast knows how to work the olympic scoring system in my opinion he is a 152 and should stay there
I dont think he will be able to hande the elite at 165 Jacobs moved up and is really struggling in his matches and i know for a fact boo boo is going back down Jacobs would like too but cant keep his wt down. 8)

Booboo is going to be at 152. We moved him up because he wanted to try 165, because lets be real, you can't stop mother nature and the kid might still be growing. U19 Tournament was a logical move at 165. The Porter fight was close, he beat Porter once before in J.O. International finals. Porter is a very strong kid, no doubt. Bboboo only lost by a few points, and this is without his father or myself in his corner either! Porter is a beast, and stopped everyone in previous bouts!
I didn't want to imply that Andrade isn't a very good boxer which he is. He just looks like he belongs at 152. At that weight, I foresee him winning the trials and box-offs. At 165, he would have a lot more difficulty trying to make the olympic team. Yes, Porter is a beast and I'm going to go watch him pound on some Ukranians mid-section on Saturday!davetko wrote:Booboo is going to be at 152. Demetrius Andrade
davetko, Dennis and the others:
Do you think he is going to be able to make 152 and still be strong enough for international competition?
At 6' 1" and still growing, I think he may have a hard time fighting the same day of the weight ins. Losing muscle mass and water to make weight is not going to help him, and by next year (Olympics) it will be even harder.
But still he looks like a logic favorite against Peter Haro, Boyd Melson and Keith Thurman for the Pan Am Games Box offs. We'll see.

Re: Demetrius Andrade
First, Demetrius "Boo Boo" Andrade does not look like he is 6'1", but maybe he is. He has a slender frame and looks like he can make 152 pounds without too much trouble. Remember Tommy Hearns at 6'1" boxed at 139 pounds in the amateurs. USAB lists Ray Rivera at 6'1" and he boxes at 141 pounds. Second, it all depends on the boxer's individual body type. I agree that if he is struggling to make weight and having to lose too much water (dehydrate himself) to make weight, then he should not stay at 152.ricky wrote:davetko, Dennis and the others:

Just to clean things up. Demetrius weighed in at 152 last night for our local golden gloves. He is 5'11".5, not 6'1. His brother Michael is about 6'1", and boxes in the 165 class. As far as weight goes, you can't stop mother nature, but as of right now, he is a 152lb. boxer. As far as Trupish being #1 in North America.....we will find out soon enough in one of these international competitions. Otherwise we would be happy to go to Canada and clear things up!
davetko:
I was referring to the height information the USA Boxing webpage provides of him. Guess they have it all wrong because they have him at 6'1" but I'm glad he is not having any problems to make weight.
Mel:
I haven't heard much about Thurman but, Do you really think he is in the same level of BooBoo? I saw Brad Solomon beat BooBoo last year in the GG finals and he really surprise him with his hand and foot speed.
Is Thurman that fast or is he a brawler puncher?
I also think Trupish will have the experience advantage but that's not all. We'll see, maybe they meet in Venezuela next month.

USA vs CANADA DUAL
Boyd Melson gave Adam Trupish all he could handle and he was coming back from a long 8 month layoff Trupish got the dec and he derserved it
but Andrade is a bigger stonger and much faster 152 then Melson and will beat Adam Trupish .
Kieth Thurman is the REAL DEAL he is young and strong and dont care about anything or anybody can you say SLEEPER.

5'11.5" sounds better. I just didn't think he looked 6'1". I would like to see Trupish against Andrade because I think Andrade would win.davetko wrote:Just to clean things up. I don't think I implied he was (BooBoo? Sheesh!). I just said you can't count Thurman out. He is only going to get better as time goes on. He's only been open for a year but is learning fast.Mel: I haven't heard much about Thurman but, Do you really think he is in the same level of BooBoo?
