Scott Harrison - misses hearing

Scott Harrison remains banned from boxing after failing to appear before a British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC) tribunal on Wednesday.

The ex-WBO featherweight champion was summoned after pulling out of his defence against Nicky Cook.

Harrison had spent five weeks in a Spanish jail and could not make the nine-stone weight limit.

Harrison's licence will stay suspended until he appears before the BBBC and is given permission to resume his career.

A statement from the BBBC said: "Despite confirmation of his attendance received from the office of his manager Barry Hughes, Harrison failed to appear before a tribunal of the stewards scheduled to take place at the board's offices.

"Accordingly his licence will remain suspended.

"He will not be permitted to take part in any boxing contest within the board's jurisdiction until such time as the stewards permit him to do so, if appropriate, following an appearance before them."

Out on the lash no doubt, what the hell is he up to.

Have we seen the last of Scott Harrison? You'd have to think so. Barry Hughes seems to be nothing more than a 'yes man', which is probably why Harrison appointed him as his manager. I just don't think he wants to face up to the fact that he has real problems, no matter what soundbites he gives when he does show up for something.

IMO Hughes is to Harrison what Aaron Snowell was to Mike Tyson.

Harrison needs someone like Jimmy Tibbs or a Teddy Atlas like figure to whip him into shape, and into line. I think he can come back, but he's pushing towards the line between coming back as a viable contender or a "way past his best Benny Lynch". Sad, but he appears to have lost it.

Harrison is finished, he shouldn't be given anymore chances and his license should be revoked IMO.

Think this is the end for Scott, Warren has rightly has his fill, what promoter is going to want to take a risk now, given Harrisons record with pulling out of fights and getting into bother.

Looks like the demon drink has claimed another scottish soul.

Looks like the end really and though I know he's pissed a lot of people off I do think this is all very sad, this is a man losing everything because of drink, it shouldnt be forgotten that he has an actual illness, I hope that even if his boxing career is over that he can still get some help and eventually get his life back together...

Alcohol and severe depression often go hand in hand, people can start drinking because they are depressed and the alcohol (which is a severe depressant itself) will make things much worse... Scott seems to be stuck in this cycle and its a thing that cost a person their life at the end of the day, the damage that alcohol can do to a person is simply frightening, how wonderful of our government to make sure that we have access to this lovely stuff 24-7!!.... people will be dying because of these insane new laws...

And you, being a GP/Counsellor, are qualified to make that statement?

One of the first tests of alchoholism, is whether or not your career is suffering because of your drinking. I'm sure if Scott could stop getting lashed so easily he would, after all, it's cost him hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Well Harrison has hardly benifited from his behaviour has he?... is losing his title, being banged up in jail and being close to bankrupt all part of some crafty master plan??... is he having fun??.... nope I dont think so somehow...

Losing his career will either help him or break him completely, if he's just getting lashed now somewhere then his future will be pretty grim...

Hardly a surprise.

Personally, and although I've no love for the man, I'd rather he concentrated on sorting himself out before trying to placate the board. But sadly, I agree with Nick, in that he was probably drinking when he should have been at the tribunal.

he may have messed people around but he has also made people a lot of money and entertained a lot of people so on that alone i think he deserves some sort of sympathy

Excellent point, alot of people enjoyed his fights, now he has problems, he has an illness, he's done a lot of stupid things yes, but to say that he's done it all just for the fun of it or to purposely piss people off and let people down is just stupid, the guy is sick and as such he deserves some compassion imo... while he has to answer for his actions to a certain extent it should also be asked why he wasnt given better help earlier as his problems probably started a good few years ago, some of the people who have been around him all this time have to share some responsibility for whats happened to him I think...
