Roy would have killed him straight away
Do you know the difference between a fight In the ring and a fight In the street?

I've read Benn's autobiography and he makes no mention of that which, if it happened, you would think he would have. In fact he doesn't mention Roy Jones at all as far as I can remember.

If this is true it would reflect rather negatively on Benn's IQ.

Sounds like another myth to me.

RJJ would have set one of his fighting cocks on the Dark Destroyer and chased him off his Pensacola Porch.

"Sick him, Foghorn! That's right, boy! Use those claws! Roy Jones never raised no rooster to be a fool!"

NOt only his roosters but his pitbuls would have been chasing the Dark Destroyer all the way back to East Ham.

Tell your mate he is full of shit. Benn would have whupped RJJ if they fought in a dark alley but I am sure he never literally 'door stepped' lil roy!

But I seriously doubt this is true. Why would it be??

However, there was a rumoured confrontation in LA between Benn and James Toney in '94.

Also Iran Barkley offered to fight Benn in the parking lot to 'finish what we started', at the post-fight presser. (and Barkley was deadly serious)

Barkley was famously a member of a vicious NY street gang as a youth - I am sure he would have given Benn a run for his money in a no rules straightener!

I'm sure he was. Unfortunately the half-blind Barkley had just been battered inside the ropes...which is where the action is supposed to take place.

I'm a big Barkley fan...bet he was gutted at how his match with Nige turned out. Not just the loss but the manner of it.

Boy....I say boy......I say you get on out of ....heeee-heeee, I say you get on out of here y'hear.

Foghorn Leghorn...a quality cartoon and no mistake.

I'd have loved to have seen Benn, Toney, Barkley, and Steve Collins in a royal rumble in a somerfields carpark in Doncaster.

Paul Ince says he once saw Nige take out three fully grown men at once when they were 14-15.

I doubt this very much.

I followed Benns career closely since his won the ABA's and have never heard of him visiting Jones Jr's house, never mind 'offering him out' on his doorstep.

I did here something about them having a very brief conversation on the phone once about fighting each other, but Benn was going throught a very messy divorce at the time and told Jones Jr they could talk more when his divorce was sorted out and his head was straight, (something like that anyway).

IMAGINE how FAST Roy would have been back then.... WITHOUT GLOVES!

He would have hit Benn like lightning and KO'd him at once.
Benn was a street fighter throughout his youth, a right gritty ba5tard (ex sqauddie - for what its worth) and an uncompromising type to say the least.

On the street Roy's super quick triple left hook would count for nothing - Benn by vicious head stomp IMO..

I cant believe I am getting sucked into a 'who would have been harder in a street fight debate' but I genuinely believe that Benn would have held all the aces if Lil Roy and he had clashed on the cobbles.

Benn was in it for the knuckle, Roy was an outstanding athlete who lacked 'the devil' that our Nige possessed.

Steve Collins 'door stepped' Roy Jones during the post fight interview at one of his fights (cant remember which) and asked for a fight to be made but this is fairly common practise when trying to build interest in a fight.

Maybe this is what your pal means??..

wasnt benn into martial arts as well as boxing?
didnt muggers try roll benn when he was an up and coming fighter and out on an early morning run, i think it was in the papers that he roundhoused the pair of them.
i once heard steve collins tried to engineer a fight with jones by going to his house.
but i think it was in an effort to get roy legitamately into the squared circle as opposed to a `straightener` type of scenario.

Benn started out doing kickboxing before switching to boxing whilst in the army as I understand it.

Roy was an athlete who, in truth, preferred basketball to fighting.

Benn was a warrior who loved to have it bang off - it would have been a one sided beating outside of the ring.
