Belshaw fights tonight

Bit shocked to see that heavy handed Belshaw who weighed 244lbs for his last fight is in against Makhmud Otazhanov, who last fought in June 2005, and that he weighed 176lbs for that.

I know Belshaw is just starting out, but this has the look of a bad mismatch.

yep that was a mismatch, First time i'ce seen Belshaw, he's very raw. Will have to see if he can learn in the gym.
He seemed an intelligent bloke, said the right things after the fight, he knows he has alot of work to do.
Will need tougher matches than tonights if were going to see any improvements though.

Yeah was suprised how smart he seemed. If he is keen and wants to learn he could be a good prospect. He throws some big powerful shots but was very raw. Still, with that power, he will always be a threat.

Hmm, he only occasionally remembered about that ppunch we call 'Jab', and seemed to be after that mythical beast called 'One-Punch-kayo' instead. But, that said, he does have power, seemingly in both hands, and he's just starting out. We will know more when he steps up.

He was on the sky show lat night, They were really overhyping him after his fight. Niky Piper was trying to say he could be world class in a couple of years, way to early to make any kind of statements like that, Niky should know better.

Cheers mate, didn't get to watch the SKY show but Belshaw has been getting some press in the local papers here, he is from Lisburn i think. Haven't seen him in action as yet though.

To be honest Steve, I think Belshaw will have to have alot of fights and be brought along slowly. He's kind of like Tye Fields. Throws long looping punches from way outside. Last night he didn't have anything coming back so could wallop away in the 2nd.
He's only young , and he was honest after the fight , saying he knows he's got loads to learn, which was good to hear.

yeah he needs some high quality sparring in between too - learning as you go will see his development stunted

Why? BEcause he's Irish??? JUst kidding...

HE was very raw, but realises it, and is only 21 so will grow more solid and has time.

This is a prospect that needs to go the Savarese or whoever route - lots of fights, low profile before actually going up in class significantly.

No need to rush him. If handled right he can meke good money at least.

Only thing I would say is that for a heavyweight his head seems a little small, and most decent heavyweights have a big solid head on them.
