Sung Kil Moon

Post by meade95 »

I watched him throughout his career.....but just spent a few hours today....rewatching 8 of his fights on tape...

I just have to put it out there...how this guy in his prime is very underrated....he punched like a mule kicking...cut off the ring very well...and simply left all of himself in the ring each time out...and was willing to roll the dice with big shots...leaving himself exposed in the process (true)....but had the chin and heart to take those risks...

Champion at both BW and JBW..... reigned at JBW for quite some time....

Outside of Khaoasi Galaxy...I don't think too many JBWs could beat him in his prime.....

You're right. He possessed hands of stone and he was good at cutting off the ring. He defeated so many strong opponents.

In my opinion he could punch hardre than Kaosai Galaxy..

One of my favorite fighters. It was amazing the way he tore thru the division in a relatively short period of time. I've always wished he had a larger body of work to get him into the HOF.
Now Ive never seen Galaxy fight; but from i know of him I can surmise that Moon may have had bettter one punch power but Galaxy was considerable stronger and tougher.

Galaxy was a straight forward bomber who had tremendous power and strength and just out-willed and beat down his opponents...very exciting to watch as he did not have the best defense and was there to be hit. He did not face the best opposition available during his reign and only fought a few times out of Thailand, but he did face some pretty solid fighters and to go 20-0-0 (17 KO) in title/trinket bouts, well…that’s pretty incredible, but I think Moon possibly fought a little better opposition overall and he was just as physical as Galaxy, but with better skill. Arguably Galaxy’s best win was against Israel Contreras and Moon’s was probably against Gilberto Roman. It would be a hell of a fight between the two, but I would probably lean toward Moon to win a close decision, or even see a draw…I doubt there would be any knockouts as both had very good chins.

Moon Vs Galaxy would have been nothing other than a war.....but having seen both of them fight (have all their title fights on tape except 3).....Galaxy was the better body puncher, had better stamina down the stretch....plus Moon was a bleeder.....

If they fought the first 4-6 rounds would have been anyones fight....with either guy having the opportunity to land that one...fight changing shot....

But as noted above both had very good chins and were never stopped.....I could see both being kd in this fight ...but not KO'd... ...... I'd go with Galaxy by late TKO (cuts)...or a tough but clear UD......Galaxy's pressure would wear on Moon.....(Moon did lose his BW title to Khakor Galaxy via UD at BW....and Khaosai was the better of the two Galaxy brothers.....with that said, Moon did improve after that fight)

Moon's win over Gilbert Roman was very good (G.Roman had already lost to Nana Konadu by then...but he was still very good).....Moon's wins over an undefeated Konadu were very impressive (both times). Moon was the heavy underdog going into their first fight...which was a classic!!....with both guys hitting the deck.. (Konadu 3 times! and Moon twice!...until a unintentional head butt caused the fight to be stopped in the 9th...and Moon took the Dec) - Moon destoryed him in the rematch KO 4th.

As for Galaxy his win over the undefeated and big hitting Israel Contreras (in Contreras home town) was definitely a big win (KO 5)....as was his win over fellow JBW champion (9 defense no less) E. Pical....again in Pical's home-Country of Jakarta, Indonesia....(KO 14)...Rafael Orono was another solid win TKO 5th...in a very good fight.. (Orono being another 8 defense JBW title holder and was 32-2-1 at the time)

To bad J. Tapia or Mark Johnson never met either of these guys. I think Moon and Galaxy beat Tapia....and likely Johnson as well.....this would have definitely helped their exposure to the U.S.
