I recently watched my tape of this fight. At first, I was put off by Reid's seemingly running away from Mullings.
But, then I remembered the bout between Ali and, then-unbeaten George Foreman.
Ali stayed away from Foreman and would engage only when it was to his advantage to do so, then dance away from and increasingly-frustrated Foreman.
I could see the similarites wherein Mullings was getting frustrated by the movement of Reid.
The biggest difference, of course, was the way Ali had beaten Foreman. Reid, while employing lots of movement, didn't engage his opponent like Ali did.
