Freddie 'Red' Cochrane. The inactive Champion.

Freddie 'Red' Cochrane had a long and busy career before he finally got a shot at the World welterweight Champion. He took full advantage of his long awaited chance and outpointed one of the toughest Welterweight Champions ever in Fritzie Zivic.

Now I now Cochrane was drafted into the Navy when America joined in WW2, but I thought that wasn't untill around late 1942, or am I wrong on this matter?

If I am correct why were his fights with Lew Jenkins in 1941 and the Zivic rematch in 1942 non-title fights? Where all World Titles frozen at this time by the various governing bodies?

The flame haired Cochrane eventual defended his Welterweight Title 1946 and lost it to Marty Servo.

Im glad you made this thread about Cochrane KO .
The guy was the definition of perseverance.
He had that stretch in the mid 30s where he lost a bunch of fights but he hung in there.
A solid fighter ultimately and a champion who seems forgotten about.

Very true. I love talking about the Alis, Robinsons and Leonards etc of this world as much as anyone. But as you know there is far, far much more to Boxing than the 'famous' fighters.
