This is interesting news. Mads Larsen was one of the best super middles around for a while. A fine boxer who fought from the leftie stance and proved that world class Danes don't begin and end with the outstanding Mikkel Kessler.

He had a bit of hard luck with the promotional issues and the fact that Ottke simply didn't want to fight and ran ran ran his way to a stalemate when he got his title challenge.

They should point Mads toward that IBF crown that no one seems to want. Stieglitz and someone else are contesting the vacant crown. They should send the 'Golden Boy' after it.

It will also be interesting to see what influence Wegner will have on him.

Well, Ottke was already substantially slowed down at the time. I agree that Larsen can be a valuable addition to the 168 division, but I doubt that he wil be a serious risk to Calzaghe and Kessler.

Yep, Stieglitz and Berrio should be doable for Larsen.

Yes the IBF belt should be possible for him to win but i doubt he will be able to beat Calzaghe or Kessler. But he is a good addition to SMW and can hopefully string a couple of wins together and then get a title shot (which he should have had a long time ago).

I think Larsen was penned to fight Manny Siaca for the vacant WBA crown and when Larsen got injured Palle put Kessler in his place and we all know that Kessler dished out a beating to claim the belt. Larsen i think was upset by this and some legal wrangling ensued for one reason or another. Good to see he is back now and training under the excellent Uli Wegner will only improve him.

I pick Stieglitz to stop Berrio again for the record when they meet.

According to the schedule Larsen is back tonight on Eurosport. The show starts at 8, looks like a pretty easy comeback.

Yes boxrec had him winning a clear UD.

Did anyone see this fight? And how did Larsen look?

Larsen looked okay IMO..... The Eurosport team (especially Holdsworth) were a bit over critical. It was a dull fight in which Larsen didn't show much ambition to go for the KO and his opponent showed no ambition to win. I thought Larsen's movements looked okay and his handspeed quite sharp. Rusty yes, but I am sure it will come.

Good little main event that saw former Alex Arthur victim, Sergio Palemo lose in the last round. Palemo was winning the fight but was getting increasingly tired and the fight was probably close on the cards at the time of the stoppage.

He looked very rusty, but that was to be expected. He also looked like he was happier to get the rounds rather than the stoppage, which was probably the right way to go. I'm not sure how much he'd have gained from going all out to stop the Russian.

I agree with Stu that perhaps the commentary team were a little overly harsh considering the length of Larsen's layoff. There were certainly little indications that he still might have something left to offer after another couple of tune-ups.

Sounds good that he looked okay. I hope he can get 1-2 more fights where he gets some rounds in and then move on to the european level of fighters to see if he still has something left in him.
