Mundine is widely recognized (including by the boxrec forum member ranking) as the #3 a super-middleweight after Kessler and Calzaghe; and as Calzaghe doesn't seem to fancy his chances against the Dane, Mundine would be the logical next opponent in line.

Mundine is a prick but in fairness he did leave Australia to fight Ottke. I'm sure if the money was right he would leave OZ to fight Calzaghe, he doesn't strike me as a bottle job despite his obvious shortcomings.

Honestly i dislike Mundine but how good would Calzaghe or any other 168 pounder have done against Ottke in there 11th fight.

One thing I do know is Calzaghe wouldn't have been knocked out cold. Agree that Ottke was a nightmare for anyone though, let alone 11 fights into your pro career.

The thing you have to respect about Mundine is that he quickly took on quality boxers after switching over from another sport. How long have been waiting for Fatt Skelton to move into genuine world class (and in a much weaker division too). Look at Curtis Woodhouse's 1st pro start, and he wants to be taken seriously

That's the thing. Calzaghe wouldn't even fight Ottke. When Calzaghe is PROPERLY ASSESSED by historians without star spangled flags stuffed up their rectums, not fighting Ottke could keep him out of the Hall of Fame.

I mean how do you let another fighter have 20 defenses, if you're the best in the division? Not saying JC wasn't better - we don't know because they didn't fight - but it just looks very very bad.

Calzaghe will get more credit for beating Manfredo in America. If he fights Hopkins, he faces a man who has adapted his style to Ottke-like! No substitute for the real thing, Joey.

But that also equally applies to Ottke. Both Calzaghe and Ottke were home-birds, who were unprepared to give up home advantage in pursuit of a big fight.

Correct me if im wrong but Ottke never left Germany and chased the big fights in the States or elsewhere, did he? I dont think its accurate to lay the blame squarley with Joe Calzaghe for a fight with Ottke not coming off.

I found that T-shirt pic on ESB so some Aussie who posted might of got the T-shirt made himself.

Calzaghe says he was never offered a fight with Ottke I think. In his 11th fight If he'd have fought Ottke, he would of been disqualified for probably unleashing a pimp slap of doom on Ottke.

Oh yeah, now they've made this.

It was six of one, half a dozen of another, both fighters and their respective promoters were keen to maintain the status quo, they didn't see much value in a unification, and were happy to continue paddling along in their wee gravy boat.
