Don't know if he is for sure - Takaloo's apparently being trained by Oliver Harrison and Danny W was trained by Spencer Fearon.

Speaking of Jimmy Mac, wasn't he supposed to be the trainer of Barry Jones in the once talked about comeback - Jones had said he was training with Jim as preparation for a comeback. Any news on the muted comeback?

Barry did train with Jimmy a few years back but I just don't think he was happy with his form. Not only that, but I think the problem that had cropped up in his brain scan was still a threat to his comeback and he thought better of it.

Last I heard he was manager at a bar in Twickenham. Few times I met him he seemed a really nice lad and very funny. Articulate too and think he could have become a very good fight commentator.

Jimmy's still a trainer and Takaloo has left him now to train with Oliver Harrison up in Manchester.

Don't think there's any hard feelings from either side, just a case of it coming to its natural end. Think Tak was a bit fed up having to trek back and forth to London. Not only that, but Jimmy doesn't have his own gym so one day Tak would be at the Kronk in Camden the next at some gym out in Essex.

He says Jimmy's an excellent trainer but he wanted things to be more regimented, ie a set training time and venue and also just felt in need of a fresh start as he looks to secure his name at the top of the domestic welterweight tree before maybe getting a shot at a big title.

He told me the set up at Harrison's gym is very good and he's back up there now I think. He gets on very well with Harrison and says Khan and Jamie Moore are top lads too.

Thanks for that Dirt.

Tak against Jennings will be a great match up.

Think Tak will benefit so much from sparring with the super fast Khan and the ring savvy Moore.

Jim McDonell

Just to set the record straight with some accurate points re the Jimmy Mac situation.
a) Takaloo is still trained by Jim, Tak went to oliver harrison gym for one sparring session.

b) Jimmy has now negotiated his own lease at a gym in Debden, Jim has been sharing this facility for the last 18 months.

c)Currently trians Tony Doherty, Simon O'donnell, and a crop of talent from Dale Youth and not forgetting Takaloo.

Last stop on the tube central line northwards, yes in Essex, at the very well resourced Bank of England Fitness and gym Centre.

I spoke to David Walker briefly at the Witter Ally Pally show and he expressed an intention to comeback as a welter.

He said he might be trained by Jimmy Mac but nothing was confrmed at that point.

There are a number ofissues betwen Boxer and Trainer which should remain private between the two parties and not for discussion on a public boxing forum. As previously stated Jim is still Tak's trainer, until such time he is informed otherwise. please observe who will be in Takaloo's corner for the jennings fight.

Agree totally but considering it's been reported in more than one local papers (the Isle of Thanet Gazeette and Kent on Sunday) and in Boxing News I take it to be in the public domain.

I heard he did have a day or two at Oliver's, but hasn't been back and also went to other gyms in the area while he was up there.

Better off staying with Jimmy Mc I reckon

I would take what the local rags of kent say with a pinch of salt, these are the same papers who quote John Macormack as his trainer which has NEVER been the case. much the same as the recent press in kent, which should never have been published. Takaloo has done nothing but positive for the Kent area but the local press choose to print otherwise. Dont believe all you read in the press, agendas hidden or otherwise do exist. Tak and jimmy split has not been reported in Boxing News, this would not go to print without being substantiated by either party.

Whats happened between Jimmy Mac and Danny Williams?.... have they split for good?... has Mac tried to get Williams to quit?... I'm just wondering as Williams seemed so poorly prepared both mentally and physically in his last fight, it was quite alarming...

Interesting question. I had the impression that as it was a last minute job that Jimmy didn't want to be involved for that one fight. Obviously, the talk is that the split is more perminant.

Jimmy's training Tony Doherty, thats news to me. Thought it was still Bryan Hughes. Who is training Barney Doherty?

Dirt Sugar,

I think you sound correct regarding Barry Jones, but I am not sure if your dates are accurate (i.e. a few years ago). I thought it was only declared roughly around the year back that Barry wanted to return. I remember thinking I saw him (or a lookalike) at one of Alex Arthur's shows on ITV - thinking he might have been scouting a future opponent as it wasn't long between that fight that the Jones comeback was mooted.

The numerous articles I've had published in the Kent press during Takaloo's career have been nothing but positive. I've never written a negative article on him so I don't know where you're coming from and I've never quoted John McCormack as his trainer. In fact, Pat Sheehan at the Currant Bun was the first to quote John as his trainer/conditioner.

Jab-Seltz I'm only going by my conversations with Tak. I've a lot of time for Jimmy too so I hope everything's worked out one way or another.

That must have been another muted comeback last year because he was definitely trained by Jimmy Mac a few years ago. I used to train at the Kronk in Camden and Barry would train with Takaloo and Danny Williams.

Is it true you were dropped on your head at birth, and your brain subsequently removed and used as a football by the 2nd year medical students before being recovered and grafted to your anal canal?

It might explain why every post is an invective filled pile of excrement.

Whatever Jimmy McDonnell's failings might be, he's achieved more as a fighter and trainer than anyone on this forum by a long chalk, well, unless Azumah Nelson is posting on here and I don't know it.
