Sugar Ray praises Khan

Sugar Ray Leonard says Amir Khan can make a big impact on the American market this year.

Khan, who fights Mohammed Medjadji on February 17 at Wembley Arena, may make his American television debut later this year on HBO on April 7.

And Leonard is backing the 20-year-old - who first rose to fame at the 2004 Olympics - to capture the imagination of viewers Stateside.

"From what I hear from the boxing community, he is a huge prospect," American legend Leonard told the BBC.

"He has the chance to cross over to the American market, and that is when you really make a huge impact."

"The kid has all the makings, he's the full package."

Khan added that he was thrilled with the praise from the former five-weight, six-time world champion.

"Ray is one of my boxing heroes and hearing him say that is a huge boost to my confidence," he said. "He is a boxer I have always looked up to.

"I still watch his videos and try and copy some of the things he did in the ring. For him to say I am a special boxer and can be a champion is fantastic."

I'll bet Leonard hasn't even seen one of his fights yet!

Khan is an exciting talent, but he sure as hell ain't the 'full package' by a long chalk.

Yeah 'the kid has all the makings'....apart from a decent chin.

Kell Brook's a better talent then Khan.

The most telling (and laughbale) part of the article is when Ray says "From what ive heard, hes a great talent".

Ray hasn't actually seen him fight.

Khan has plenty to think about in Britain & Europe. The kid himself said he wants British and European titles at 135. He could do with 2 or 3 more distance fights, but fights with Thaxton and Romanov would be tantalising matchups.

Well he better do it sharpish- he wants to be 'World champion' by the end of the year!! Lets get Joel Casamayor on the phone. What a fookin easy payday that would be for the Cuban, i'll bet he wouldnt beleive his look at so much money/so little risk.
