FRANCESCO DAMIANI v JAMES BROAD

Post by overhand_right »

This fight was actually TEN rds, not the 12 rds listed on Boxrec. I suffered through the full bout the other night just to verify this. The highlight was in the 10th when Broad missed a huge, telegraphed punch by several feet and slipped on his ass. The ref decided to call it a knockdown, and Broad was so knackered that he didn't even bother to protest.

But the fight was definitely 10, one of your reserachers may want to look into this.

Do you have any additional info on the fight like venue, weights, scores, officials?

Dont exactly understand what Demy means, but if he means that he has it written down as a 'source' in some old yellowed mag, then it is a typo.

I saw it the other day with my own eyes, i'm going by the actual video tape, and as i always suspected, it went only 10 rds. And this was a day when i hadn't shot myself up with heroin so it was definitely real.

Why on earth would i lie about such a pointless obscure fight?

1987 August issue of Ring Rag & 1994 FightFax RB agrees with the over hand. :TU:
(No eliminatory was mentioned.)
 Unless Demy can come up with a better source: Damiani 227, WINS 1O Broad 257, should be entered.

Italian Magazine "Boxe Ring" of May 1987 reported Damiani (kg 103) WINS 10 over Broad (kg 118). Referee Poletti. Judges Brocchi and Silvi 99-95 all per Damiani.
This magazine reported also that this bout was an IBF semifinal but I think it was an unofficial label.
The error of 12 rds is on Bibbia del Pugilato by dr. Ballarati (Hall of Famer) and many books took this wrong result from there.
Quiet friend, I believe you. I told only that I knew 12 rds but I read the wrong result on an important world annual. :TU:
Sorry for my bad English language.
