Winky Wright wants Calzaghe!

Wright added, “I’ve been saying we’ll fight Calzaghe. I don’t care where we fight. I’ll go overseas. It’s just the point--pay me. Don’t bring me all the way overseas, don’t pay me. I gotta catch coach comin’ back? I need first class!”

Interesting. Calzaghe's been dropping Wrights name for some time now..... so, if Wright beats Hopkins, i see no reason this fight cannot be made! cough splutter!

Calzaghe, apparently, is looking for a defining fight to round of his career, and Wright, in my opinion, seems like the 'w'right kind of oponent. The most important factor being that he's naturally smaller than Calzaghe. I know he's set to fight Hopkins at 170lbs, but Wright could probably have finished his career at 154lbs had he gotten the fights there. Calzaghe could easily move into the 175lbs division, so if they meet, the natural advantage in size difference should definate'ly be there for Calzaghe. Something he and Warren wont be taking lightly!

One thing about Wright. He's never the attraction and all he ever talks about is money, in that daft, adopted bad boy voice of his. I love watchign him fight, but I can't stand listening to him speak. A lot of people don't even like watching him fight. If he makes a big demand, will Allegedly meet it? Just soun slike another big fight that'll come to nought.

Anyhow, I feel Hopkins will do to him what Mosley did to Collazo. Hopkins being more knowledgable and having better movement.

I love watching Mayweather, Hopkins and Witter but can't stand watching Wright. All he does it cover up and throw that right jab, effective but boring as hell and he'll never score a ko in 100years.

The only Wright fights I hate are the ones post Vargas and pre Mosley. When he was IBF champion and struggled with JC Candelo, Angel Hernandez, and basically looked as if he couldn't give a damn as long as RJJ's Square Ring was paying him well. Cynical greed if what I'm thinking. How on earth did he get a fight with Mosley? Wright should be lucky that Mosley takes on the top fighters. Winky even priced himself out of a match, about a year before they got it on.

I used to say Wright beat a shot old lightweight and a shot trinidad but his win over Mosley is looking better and better as Mosley is going from strength to strength.

Also remember Wright is calling out the Mayweather-Delahoya winner which I'm sure he'd prefer to Calazage. 1 things for sure he doesnt want to fight Taylor again.

Wright bores me to tears, he's so mechanical and one dimensional. I'm sure he has the skills to do more than he does, but he chooses to fight out of a shell throwing the jab almost exclusively, and then wonders why he's not the biggest thing since Jesus.

He did let it all hang out in spurts against Taylor, which is commendable, but I generally find his fights onerous and tedious.

If Calzaghe is looking to round off his career with a career defining fight then he shouldn't be looking at the smaller Winky Wright to step up. There is a guy within his own weight division that would define his career quite nicely IMO and we all know his name.

I would just love Calzaghe to fight, and beat, Kessler and secure his legacy at SMW. His long career can only be defined by such a fight.

Wright wants big money but has people turning off in their droves with his cautious safety-first style. Hit and not be hit by all means but this guy takes it to the extreme.

Hopkins v Winky is unlikely to be a great PPV, I cannot see it doing more than 350,000 buys, but you can bet your arse they will be asking for 5 million a piece at least. Neither man has the style to sell a PPV successfully, by which I mean something over 500,000.

PPV's make money with only 200,000 buys so even 300-350,000 would be seen as a success by the promoter involved.

Hopkins v Wright will be an absolute stinker IMO.

That depends entirely on how much they are paying the fighters.

A 200,000 PPV will pay just fine if it's a name fighter against an opponent getting $50,000, but when BOTH men are on a multi-million dollar payday, then that simply isn't the case.

Don't forget, the TV companies are in the business of making a big profit. There's lots of other costs involved in the proceedure, advance publicity costs them indirectly, as they are losing advertising revenue they would generate otherwise.

Winky and Bernard I reckon will want $4Million a piece. That's a lot to recoup.

How many PPVs will go over 500k though? 300k would be good figures and this would be a big success if it does 300k, Hatton-Castillo will do well to do 300k and Hatton will be making at least as much as Winky/BHOPs

I'm in full agreement with you. He's definate'ly going to finish his career by fighting 'a name'. I'm thinking he will be looking at the naturally smaller Winky Wright for his bow-out.

Even if Calzaghe did step up and fight Kessler, it would not change my opinion of him much. He's been dodging the best his whole career, a couple of big fights out of 20 odd title defences is just pathetic and i, for one, will always remember him as being a joke of a champion.

I do not doubt that this fight will not take place (afterall there’s enough reason for it, and it doesn’t even appear to be a consideration). It is a criticism fellas.

Calzaghe says he wants a career defining fight. For me there isn’t a more meaningful career defining fight for him than taking on Kessler, more so than taking a lucrative fight against a big name. If he took the fight and won his legacy as the best SMW will have been cemented, that is more career defining for me than taking on smaller guys or jumping weights. Besides, the opportunity to fight a ‘big name’ would still be open to him after this fight is out the way.
