Yes, good call, Bugner is a very interesting character, who I feel never really wanted to fight, but saw it as a good way to make a living. He had lots of natural ability and was a great natural athlete, but he was a very negative and reluctant fighter when in against top flight fighters, seemed more concerned with not getting bashed up than winning the fight.

The above three already have.Boxingnut wrote: Alan Minter

There is also a very good piece on Jimmy Tibbs in the book Sweet Fighting Man by Melenie Lloyd.

If King worte a book, I don't know if I would buy it. You would'nt know if you were reading lies or the truth.
Who has read: The life & crimes of Don King, by Jack Newfield? That's a brilliant book and exposes King for what he is: a manipulating, robbing person, who workships money and will go to ridicualous lengths in order to get his way, particularly when it comes to money.
King has treated many of his friends, past and most probably present, so badly. I would not want ot be his enemy.

I have, a good number of years ago, and my favourite quotes from it are by Tex Cobb. " Don King is one of the great humanitarians of our time. There is no racism with Don, hog, dog or frog, he screws everyone the same. "Rocky Balboa wrote:Boxingnut wrote:If Don King wrote a book, would you buy it?

Or, " If you've got a quarter, Don takes the first 26 cents. "

I am sure I have it in the loft somewhere! I'll have to dig it out and read it!!!
Bugner would make a fascinating read.
Has anyone read Holyfield's book, his time in boxing would make an interesting story too.
Paul Ingle another great book, but you'd have to be careful what was written to avoid legal action!

Yeah - I heard he tested 'negative' in two private tests he partook in. I'm rather suspicious of this though....Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:Although according to him hes not HIV Positive, not sure if I buy this though.E wrote:Tommy Morrison book would be the Ultimate American Tragedy.....

Richard Dunn.
He played rugby league for Wakefield and was a former paratrooper and he made a comeback from journeyman heavyweight to world title challenger. I would pay good money to read his story and Joe Bugners also.
Henry Cooper wrote a very good book in 1971 called 'My Story' even though every defeat was blamed on something other than his opponent being better on the night. Still a good book if you can get hold of it.

He has to prove to an impartial doctor thats hes not positive. A negative test result doesn't prove he hasn't got HIV as you can take drugs that will make it undetectable by tests.E wrote:Yeah - I heard he tested 'negative' in two private tests he partook in. That's par for the course for most fighters though, let's face it, nobody wants to admit to themselves that they just weren't good enough on the night.Carlos-Wigan wrote:Richard Dunn.

Cooper is always doing it. I remember a sky interview claiming he would have beaten Ali 'if it wasn't for Alis thick skin and Negro features' when will he learn that no-one likes a sore loser. Bugner beat him fairly and Cooper blamed old Harry Gibbs, you have to read Harry Gibbs autobiography (and it is well worth a read) to see what impact that made on his life after the fight.jamesmcdonnell wrote:That's par for the course for most fighters though, let's face it, nobody wants to admit to themselves that they just weren't good enough on the night.Carlos-Wigan wrote:Richard Dunn.

I would take Coopers knighthood away for being an unsportsmalike get!
