Is Bute for Real?

He sounds like a MAJOR threat to Calzaghe/Kessler et al given the manner of his latest win of the very decent Tateosvyan. Tateosvyan is arguably the best European Super Middleweight outside of the two World champions. He's beaten the current EBU champion and also the long undefeated Markussen last time up.

Here is the report from Fightnews - sounds impressive. A near shut out win over Tatevosyan is impressive.

The Montreal weather was worthy of Siberia, but that’s as welcome as Sergey Tatevosyan would feel as he lost a one-sided decision, 120-108, 119-109, 119-109 to Lucian Bute at the Bell Centre in front of 9087 enthusiastic fans. Bute was dominant throughout with Tatevosyan (25-7 15KO) who was ranked in the top ten by both the IBF and WBA. It’s only the third time in Bute’s 19-0 career that he has been extended the distance. Tatevosyan was able to come forward for the first five rounds where Bute treated the charging Russian like a shooting gallery. After the 6th though, it was full survival mode for Tatevosyan who shifted gears into reverse and put on his track shoes and used the whole ring, doing his best to stay out of trouble from the sharp-shooting Bute.

There are loads of his fights on youtube - reminds me of Calzaghe but without the killer speed.

Excellent prospect though - he would do Froch, no problem.

Seems to have lost his reputation as a power puncher but his resume is very solid. The beating he handed to Salem was frightful. Names like Mock, Thysse, Tatevosyan are pretty impressive to have convincing wins over.

Tatesvyan is a good surviver, knows his way around a ring - I don't think any Super Middleweight could stop him. Fully expected it to go the distance, but I semi expected it to be very close, maybe even controvesial. Not a one sided fight.

I saw the whole fight live and bute performance was impressive ...

His main asset is his defence ... he know his distance and he is very tall.
He is very fast for a smw and can hit hard. He is not a 1 punch ko artist, but his opponent respect him normally after the first part of the fight. He seem to wear his opponent down by using combination and mixing body and head punch.

Can he beat calzaghe or kessler right now ??? i'm not sure, however he is one of the fighter with the highest odd of doing it.

Not seen Bute fight but i have seen Tatevosyan V Markussen. Markussen was in control early and basically just got caught and dropped and didn't want to know anymore, he is notoriously temperamental. Anyway the point is he was on for the win and then had enough but fair play to Tatevosyan who some believe beat Eastman when they met in 2003.

Bute is beating decent names so a title shot should be on the way sooner rather than later.

Bute is an excellent prospect. He is probably one of the best prospect in the entire sport of boxing.

He is still untested at the elite level but so far he dominated the journeyman and top15-20 guys they put in front of him.

He is a gym rat it's very clear he is improving in every fights.

I'm a huge fan of his. I just hope he doesnt get rushed. He could probably beat most top10 guys right now. But I don't think he would beat Kessler or Calzaghe just yet.

I think he should wait at least another year (3-4 fights) before he thinks about mixing it up with the two top dogs.

Yep I agree, however the fan are pushing for tougher fight and even title fight ... I just wish that interbox and larouche doesnt listen too much to the fan and take the best decision for bute.

Bute wouldn't only do Froch...He would destroy him, Froch as virtually no defense. Ok he's a good puncher but HE DOESN'T STAND A CHANCE...Lucian is WAY too quick for Froch and ''The Cobra'' (let me laugh on this one

in less than 6 rounds. IMO Bute's is the real deal and no one in the SMW can come close to stop him except Kessler but even there, if Kessler keeps is guard too up against Bute, he will get in serious trouble...GO LUCIAN!!!!!

As people have been saying he's still really at the prospect stage, however when yoiu watch him fight he does seem to have something special about him you don't often see with guys at that stage of their careers.

He's not unlike Calzaghe in style, I was actually wondering if he was a fan of Calzaghe as he wore very similar gear to Joe in his fight with Mock

Ye he's quite the coward isint he... - that's why he fought Jeff lacy who was perhaps regarded as 1 of the most fearsome punchers in the world , o ye and the fights agains Brewer, Eubank Mitchell etc... I think not!

Chad Dawson v Bute would be a cracking fight in my opinion. Dawson is a class act with fast hands, long reach, good jab, decent power and is technically excellent. He is more than capable of moving back down to Super Middleweight (not that he'd want to) and Bute is more than capable of going up to Light heavyweight.
