They are on a 12 city promotion tour, and I guess they just run out of new things they could say.Terence wrote:Floyd must not be the most intelligent out of the ring fighter as anyone who tries to goad Oscar gets smashed-up.
Apparently Floyd shoved Oscar a little at a presser and threatened to "Bust his ass!" He must be watching 'Brokeback Mountain' too much.
Floyd also called Oscar a "pussy" and said he is willing to bet $3 million he wins, every dollar in the bank, that must be a drop in the cash ocean for Oscar.
Oscar calls it all fuel to the fire and I believe him.
This fight has the potential to be a stinker but who cares, the sense of potential glory is tangible in the build-up.

I agree that Floyd needs to be careful what he says to Oscar, there's no sense in giving De La Hoya any extra motivation, just look what happened to Vargas and Mayorga. Floyd better keep it down, otherwise it may be him that feels a little prick in the ring.

I reckon Floyd realises Oscar is a genuine threat to his unbeaten record, and maybe he's behaving in this manner because of that.
However, I reckon this could be the fight where Mayweather brigns it all to the table, produces his whole arsenal of skills, abilities etc. I believe Floyd is in his prime.
If Mayweather is a bit apprehensive, scared a little etc, then that's a good thing. This means he'll train accordingly, and be razor-sharp for the fight.
I know some feel the fight could be a "sxtinker" and I agree there is a possibility of that. I just hope the fight comes out a classic, one to remember.

Yes, it's funny when Toney does it, Floyd clearly doesn't have the comic talent that Toney does.Terence wrote:I like it when Toney does it but you get the impression James is a panto villain. Waiting up for this fight is going to be half the fun, I'll be stoned sideways.
Toney is also a genuine fruitcake, I think Mayweather is trying play up to all his hip-hop homie friends as well....

I can't believe genuine boxing fans here believe that Oscars going to put up a better performance because PBF talked shit to him. PBF always trash talks to sell a fight these days, its pure salesmanship. Look at Mayweather from 130-135 he didnt talk any trash and his fights didnt sell. He trash talked Gatti and sold BIG - the trash talker was born. Is that the real Floyd? Its hard to tell.
Another point is rather than trash talking going against Mayweather it will probably help him. He wants DLH to chase him round the ring looking for the KO, that plays into Mayweathers hands because DLH will make more mistakes, get countered more, and run out of steam.
Either way expect the best Mayweather and DLH to show up to the party. Both fighters (including DLH) already look in very good condition. I think Mayweather will pull this 1 off though.

Apart from that The idiot is a moron. If he was to say to ODH " I'm quicker than you, more skillful, fitter, blah, blah, blah" it would be understandable. This clown though says imbecilic things like " I'll bust your ass" Mayflower can not knock out bent gear at over 135, never mind a 154 Oscar. He hit the shot to shit Gatti with everything except the ring post, McGirt pulled him out. The NON punching Baldo hits Gatti twice, and f***ed him. That is what annoys me about the moron, he makes threats that he physically is incapable of doing.
Well said, jamesmcdonnell wrote:I do hope Oscar does a number on him. Oscar, despite being very rich and successful, is a class act who has done nothing but enhance the sport in my opinion.
I hate it when these old schoolers moan because DLH fights are full of screaming girls and they call DLH a chicken for not fighting guys in their prime.
He cannot help his date of birth doesn't match with the likes of Chavez and Whittikar and they were still the top guys in the devision when he fought them. He couldn't do alot about it.
Apparently Oscar was very uncomfortable, so maybe the Floyd mind games are working. Floyd's a better fighter with better skills, if a bit undersized.
All the antics had a purpose. Floyd managed to bring the Floyd Sr issue up which would have been a big backstory had 'Joy' trained DLH to beat his son. So they get to bring the feud into the build up, etc etc, in one of many attempts to get ppl saving up for the PPV.

With Toney, it's near impossible to hear what the guy's saying anyway. He just sounds like an incoherent mental patient.Goz wrote:Yes, it's funny when Toney does it, Floyd clearly doesn't have the comic talent that Toney does.Terence wrote:I like it when Toney does it but you get the impression James is a panto villain. i agree!! floyd's trash talking does seem to be getting under oscars' skin in a different way tham vargas' or mayorga's did...viciousmaussa wrote:Apparently Oscar was very uncomfortable, so maybe the Floyd mind games are working. Floyd's a better fighter with better skills, if a bit undersized.

oscar was able to convert to anger with vargas/mayorga into controlled aggression and it paid off with much slower fighters...with PBF, i'm not sure oscar's extra motivation from the trash talk will play out similarly with the much smarter, slicker mayweather...whose skills are far superior to mayorga & vargas!!
by the time it's fight night, i expect both floyd junior and senior taking potshots designed to rattle oscar enuf to perhaps make an unwise strategic adjustment!! whether it works is a bif if...but you never know!!

Yes, I don't think Floyd is dumb enough. If he stands in front of Oscar, that cross armed guard won't be enough to save him. Oscar has very quick hands, people seem to be talking as if he's slow as shit through a funnell, he may not be as quick as Floyd, but there's not a huge amount in it.Terence wrote:It would be great for boxing if Floyd stays in the pocket and blocks, parries and sidesteps his way to a good two-way win but I cannot see that happening.
Floyd moved a lot against Baldomir and went slightly into running territory for me. He will really feel the size difference when Oscar gets him in that ring and is turning the heat up on him.
Floyd will be trying to pick and poke, but even that strategy will be tricky against the taller, rangier Oscar.
As for Toney being a pantomime Villian, well, sometimes, don't forget he threw a ring stool at Septuganarian neck-brace-wearing Michael Katz at ringside, because he didn't like something he wrote about him!
Thing is, Toney goes out there to smash his opponents to bits, even against Sam Peter, Toney was banging as hard as he could, he just couldn't make a dent in him. Floyd's trash talking sounds frankly ridiculous when he then gets in the ring and skitters around all night trying to avoid being hit.

Although I think PBF will win this, I would love to see him take a beating from DLH.
PBF is a skilful fighter, but put him up against some of the real greats and his ranting looks a mite pathetic.
If he achieves 1/10 of what DLH has in his career, plus what DLH is already achieving out of the ring, he will be doing well.
Mind you, there are few better fighters than an angry DLH, so, it could be fun to watch if he catches up with the running man

1/10? Mayweather has beaten Castillo, Corrales, Jesus Chavez, Genaro Hernandez, Carlos Hernandez & was a genuinely great super featherweight champion, though his later career is more manufactured.Slapsie Maxie wrote:Although I think PBF will win this, I would love to see him take a beating from DLH.

He's a better boxer than Oscar, who let's say was a great handicapper.
It was in a gym in the lead up to the Jones fight. Katz feels that it was because Toney was jittery about Jones, perhaps knowing that Roy was too big, dynamic & fast. Katz asked him about Jones, then Tney lost it, saying something like "Jone? Don't ask me about Jones!"jamesmcdonnell wrote:Yes, I don't think Floyd is dumb enough. That's the incident! He also threatened to kill Jackie Kallen after the Jones fight.
When you say handicapper, are you talking about Oscar's reputedly huge weight advantage over his foes come fight night? There was some talk of him cheating the scales in his early career, though I've never known what was being implied by that.

Is there really a big size difference though? Didn't they start off at roughly the same weight? I'm not sure... What're your thoughts?Terence wrote:It would be great for boxing if Floyd stays in the pocket and blocks, parries and sidesteps his way to a good two-way win but I cannot see that happening.

My feeling is that Floyd will win convincingly but people whose opinion is probably worth more than mine are expecting a good fight. So I'm staying hopeful.
As good as Floyd is I'd like to see him lose.
