A pair of defending National Golden Glove champs, Lowell's Edwin Rodriguez (165 pounds) and Southern New England's Demetrius Andrade (152), are returning. Rodriguez and Andrade each won national titles in Omaha, Neb., last April.
Good night to see some future stars, finals will be tomorrow. If you're in the area come check it out, some strong fighters out of Mass and CT, and VT looks to be up and coming as well.
New England GG Semis tonite
Rodriguez has no easy fight in Demetrius brother, Michael at 165. Michael a few years back won a silver at the U19 tournament, and bronze at national golden gloves, also a few years back. Few people realize that Michael has beaten Edwin before. Nontheless Edwin is the favorite as he should be, however he is in tough!

Never said he would, but they're 13 pounds away last check, with DA at 152.

I know Andrade and Rodriguez are both contenders for the National GG titles this year being that they are defending their titles, but do you think any of the other boxers have a good chance at winning a national title. I know Ryan Kielczweski and know that he has a lot of experience and is returning to the National GG, but I don't know any of the remaining boxers. Now that Nate James is in Marquette, do you think the new Super-heavy is a quality replacement?

Other than Andrade and Rodriguez, I believe the rest of the New England team is about a year away from being in the hunt for a national title. I could and hope I am wrong, but with all the nationals I have attended those are my thoughts. Our 165 class was loaded this year. Even the kid who lost in the semis, Russell Lamour is a very good boxer...I believe he won the Ringside tournament, and Mike Andrade, whom Rodriguez beat in the finals.......is a top middleweight, just in the wrong region! Over the years they have fought 5 times, Edwin has beaten Mike 3 out of 5, so its always a good battle.

Maybe that is why Edwin does so well. He gets plenty of tough competition at the state level to prepare him for the nationals.davetko wrote:Dennis
