"I want to stay involved and now I'm working out again that is likely to include becoming a trainer."
Lennox Lewis is offering to help Audley Harrison resurrect his career by training him to the world heavyweight title.
Is this optimism beyond the point of reason?
"Definitely not," says Lewis. "Audley has the talent to be The Man. Losing a couple of fights doesn't change that. What matters is not whether you can come back from a knockout like the one he just took from Michael Sprott - we all can if we want it enough - but how you come back.
"Has he learned that it takes more than he's given so far?"
Lewis is encouraged by his own fabled maestro Emanuel Steward to become a trainer and he is inviting Harrison to join him in the gym in Miami where he has made his family home.
He said: "The biggest mistake Audley made was turning down the offer I once made him to be part of my training camp. He needs to find out what it's really all about at the highest level. It's 12 weeks in isolated concentration.
"It's not about quick knockouts. It's grinding up to survive 12 rounds, to take the pain, to never give up.
"It's also about the basic of asserting the jab. Nothing works properly without that. Audley has the jab but he has to knuckle down to using it."

Hmmm......not so sure, you can't train heart can you? I am surprised Audley hasn't tried to hook up with Manny Steward previously to be honest. I've never been convinced by Thel Torrence either.

I cant believe Lennox can turn Harrison into a champ from from his current position as world heavyweight chump - I also find it hard to be optomistic about Harrison having a future in boxing - I think most people agree he has the tools but his chin and his over cautious style are big problems for him - I remember seeing him in his early fights and thinking if he is like this with poor opposition he will never get to the top - These were the sort of fighters Matt Skelton without Harrisons skills was knocking out one after the other - Skelton is brave, has loads of heart and determination and wins because of these things - Obviously as a fighter steps up his opponents dont just fall over and Matt has had adjust to that - He fought the wrong fight against Williams in their first bout but got it right in the re match being quick on his feet and scoring points and not getting in close where Williams could tag him - How do you teach a person to have bottle when its not in their nature, you either have it or you dont - Take Graham Earl, never mind his skills and fitness the man has enormous courage and showed it in his last fight, OK he lost the fight but left the ring with loads of respect - Its a vital element in a boxers arsenal and because Harrison doesnt have it most of the fans have turned on him - Take the other Harrison, maybe he brought shame on himself and the sport with his lifestyle and addictions etc but what a fighter and a real champion, I hope he gets all the help that he needs - Audley Harrison does not have that brave approach you must have to reach the top and because of his attitude, his rediculous predictions about what he was going to do and his failure to deliver, people have had more than enough of him - I think he should go because few people want to see him fight again and with or without Lewis he will never make the grade - I wouldnt pay to see him, I wouldnt even turn my TV on to watch him.

One interesting thing to me though is that it shows what an arrogant tosser Harrison is if he turned down the opportunity to work with Lennox before. I would have bitten his hand off!

lewis is wasting his time with harisson.

Lewis was clearly hit a lot harder by Vitali than we thought.....

Let's be clear here - this is just a piece of PR - Lewis basically saying he might become a trainer...

Audley has nowhere to go, he needs a drastic change- if he doesn't snap up this offer he is well & truly a complete bum. I know you guys are cynical but a man with LLs experience and talent, working Audley over for 12 tough weeks would be great benefit.

Audley should be fighting again in April if hes smart.

No offence to Lewis, but what the hell makes him think he would make a difference. Lewis might have been a great fighter, but what pedigree has he as a trainer?

I don't think God himself could turn Audley into a heavyweight champ.

Lewis is dellusional. He speaks about himself as he is still the champion.

He talks about the Tyson fight as if he beat him in 1988. He actually beat him fourteen long years later.

Why? Just because Lewis was a great fighter does not in any way mean he can be a great trainer. Audley probably turned down the offer for that very reason. True, Torrance doesn't seem to be doing much with him, but at least he's got a track record.

It COULD be a good move for Audley, but it could just as easily be a bad move. There's no way of knowing.

True, but hes got absolutely fook all else going for him now.

I cant see how it would hurt him spending an entire training camp with a talent like LL.

At this stage, the only help Audley could get is technical, but it's not technique which is the problem, he just has not got the required robustness of character or physicality to ensure a proper heavyweight tear up. If Michael sprott can destroy him with one punch, there's little point in him harbouring any kind of ambitions above winning the domestic heavyweight title, but even that may be beyond his abilities. Would he beat Gammer?

Cant seriously debate Gammer til we see what he does with Fatty on friday night, too much of an unknown. My guess is Gammer is no better than Holden.
