dont think SKYSSPORTs showing the Barrera vs Marquez fight?

Post by Timmbo »

:( :( The fight is on March 17th. Ive just checked on SKY's website and there seems to be no listing or mention of this fight.
Maybe if we all send them our protest emails we might get a positive response.

could someone put up that SKY email address.

it might be on delayed, but sometimes they are tardy with this sort of thing. Boxing News nearer the time usually has a good idea of whats happening.

failing that it will be on youtube couple of days after lol

You Tube is shit. Who wants to watch a grainy compressed video file? Fights are supposed to be seen on TV.

Sky need to pull their socks up. And no, I don't mean showing an 'Abysmal' Edner Cherry fight.

its a good subsitute, and a great source of rarer obscure footage that sky sould never show - if its not on sky what else can you do?

Because I work and have no qualms about spending money, I BUY fights.

High quality ones on DVD for decent prices. I don't go near the dodgy "career sets" -anyone who has someone's career on DVD doesn't discriminate against shite quality. Believe me, every set I've had is a mess because turd is lumped with quality to various ratios (normally 50-50).

I buy custom fights from good sellers that are a) up to date and b) have good backlists.

Buying top quality fights on clear DVD, is vastly superior to being thrifty and playing a crap video file. It also enables me to have a good fight library. If any disc goes wrong, I can easily make a backup.

Also, given that i work on a computer, no way do I want to sit in an uncomfortable chair in the spare room where it's cold, when I can view on TV.

This video streaming - if it takes off - can only put boxing further in the realm of internet geekdom. I don't care what Ant Evans or Cliff Rold says.

Also, when squinting at a little box, it becomes harder to score fights accurately. Is it any coincidence that Toney and Glen-Nescafe got "blatantly robbed" on the same night (vs Peter 1 and Woods 3)?

I used to trade but after I get back from work I have no time editing and copying discs anymore.

It's not listed on the website, but it was listed on skytext, so I suspect they are showing it.

Yeh Sky only have Williams/Gammer listed on website. Hope they get Barrera/Marquez live, undercard is quite good too.

Maussa, internet is great resource for boxing fights, if you got your head round one of those torrent sites I posted in past, you can pretty much download any recent fight within hours, most in excellent quality. Live streaming can be a pain in ass on a little monitor but if you got a decent graphics card with TV out you can relay the video onto the big screen.

So hook your PC up to a fekking plasma screen in the living room then you luddite? You don't have to watch it on a tiny little screen, if it's high res, which pretty soon it all will be. It's just a matter of time. What seems like weird technology now, will soon be commonplace, the PC is merely the conduit that processes the signal which is sent over the phone line. Why not make use of this technology, as Secondsout are doing? They are offering fights which would otherwise not be available without shelling out on a Sattelite dish and decoder.

You can already get triple play services via companies like Homechoice who deliver Cable TV over the phone line. There's nothing mind bendingly weird about this development.

How is it going to confine boxing to internet geekdom? There are an estimated 15 million broadband users in the UK, how is that going to harm boxing? How many people in the UK have Sky Sports?

Not everyone's going to go for that. It'll be Johnny No Mates on his PC, eating a warm bowl of soup to keep off the chills, as he shivers in the spare room. Like all of this stuff is common knowledge. And as if video streams don't hop, skip, jump, and bloody well crash!

IF it's high res. Ha! Maybe the tech will be sorted out in 2 or 3 years. By that time the boxing fans will have god knows how many websites to subscribe to, in addition to getting Sky Sports.

Wow, you can go on the internet for porn, boxing, all kind of things! The new cult.

My point is, that it's not common knowledge now, but it soon will be. The technology seems a little exotic now, but we're getting nearer and nearer the day now where people have a wee box which delivers all their content into the home, TV, telephone, Internet, the lot.

I'm considering getting a nice big plasma screen, and hooking up my PC to it and watching TV through a PC-TV card, instead of buying a seperate freeview box for the TV. I think there's a decvice which will transmit the signal from there to your TV as well.

I honestly think that boxing is best served by having dedicated channels which show only boxing. The sports programming is so competitive on terrestrial and digital TV, and they aren't showing any willingness to give boxing much exposure. It's split over so many channels, which few people have all of, that it is very difficult to follow the sport without buying DVD's these days, which is certainly going to marginalise the sport.

Once I get my broadband connection up and running (whenever BT FINALLY GIVE ME A BASTARD PHONE LINE!), I'll sign up for the secondsout TV channel.
