Catley survives Kharchenko!
Former WBC super middleweight Glenn Catley (29-7, 21 KOs) stopped Sergey Kharchenko (13-8-2) in round five on Saturday at Filton College in Bristol, England, but only after surviving some difficult moments himself. Kharchenko hurt Catley badly in round two with a crushing right hand, but Catley weathered the storm and slowly got back into the fight. Finally, in round five Catley connected with a right hook that floored Kharchenko, who beat the count but was unable to fend off Catley's follow up assault. Time of the stoppage was 2:34. It was Catley's second fight since beginning his comeback in November after spending nearly four years out of the ring. In other action, bantamweight Lee Haskins (16-1, 9 KOs) returned from his unsuccessful challenge for the Commonwealth title with an easy six round shutout of Sumaila Badu (12-5, 6 KOs).

Interesting, not sure his comeback will mount to much - never was the most durable. Still I didn't think his opponent was at all bad for the current stage of his comeback.

Nice to see Haskins back.

Useful fighter Catley, he can bang - Haskins I dont really like, bit too much like Froch, poor defense and cocky - He also has a big punch but leaves himself wide open trying to land it - Good for British level but not much further IMO - He tries hard and nobody could say he is boring, quite the contrary he keeps up a good pace and is very watchable. I just think his open style will prevent him from progressing too much further.

I remember a fight with a guy called Bocco and Catley put on a 101 of inside fighting.

That was 10 years ago though.

Kharchenko was a very good opponent for this stage of Catley's comeback, the Russian beat Haussler on the undercard of Kessler-Beyer but the judges gave it to the German.

This was a solid test for Glen and glad he came through, however i feel British title level is what he should be aiming for at the moment, not sure he has the durability to go further especially at this stage of his career.

The rumor is Catley is on a short list of possible opponents for Bute on March 23rd in Montreal.

But it might not happen since he was cut in that fight.

Well Catley is known in Canada, because of his win over Lucas, so that match-up with Bute is a possibility, and Catley can't afford to wait around before trying to go at a higher level.

God I hope not, Catley is a has-been, overrated. Bute deserves much better competition. It would be a walk in the park win over Catley. In fact, Bute would probably knock Catley back in to a definite retirement.

Only number 7! Perhaps another decent win for Cately will push this one higher on your wish list. I know I would much prefer see Froch-Catley than Skelton-Harrison. Actually, I'd rather watch Froch shadow box than Skelton-Harrison 8)

I`d like Catley to have another 2-3 fights before going up against Froch...but certainly better than the Robin Reid fight that Froch is making noises about.

And lee Haskins, I just think he has shown in his last few fights that he lacks real mettle for a hard fight...like so many `prospects` looks good when he has it his own way, but quickly gets dis-heartened when the script is not being followed
